There aren't all that many parts to a meat grinder, regardless which. Naturally if it's electric you're not going to submerge the motor portion. The only parts to clean are the body, the auger, the plate, the blade, and the retaining nut (five parts). All should be washed by hand with hot sudsy water, rinse, and dry. The plate will normally be of hardened tool steel and should be lightly coated with cooking oil to prevent rust. These days most grinder employ a stainless steel blade, but if of tool steel then oil that prior to storage too. There's no rule that the grinder can't be cleaned in a dishwasher but I don't recommend placing carbon steel , aluminum, die cast, or tinned parts in the dishwasher. It shouldn't take more than three minutes to clean a grinder by hand, no one can be that lazy they need to use a dishwasher to clean five measly parts. Sheldon |

Yes there is... dishwashing cleanser will pit/discolor most grinder parts... that's why my admonition that I don't recommend placing grinder parts into the dishwasher. Hey, you asked (I didn't volunteer) so I'm politely answering... you obviously don't like my answer because you obviously already had your mind made up... you are being obnoxious and rude. **** YOU! See that superfluous comma you inserted, makes it a question, snidewise but a question nevertheless (in fact it asks permission). And by transporting my name as you did you directed your question directly to me alone, not to mention the small fact that you responded directly to my post, even reiterated "those 5 parts" that only I illustrated. And you're the one who is upset... you posted the same thing twice... must be very important to you... your relationship with your dishwasher is evidently quite intimate... fuzzy, warm, and vibrates. =========== Janet Bitchwick whines: > Sheldon If the dishwasher is already half full, there's no reason not to put those 5 parts in there too. =========== Sheldon |

Don't ask me anymore. Oh, sure. Politely. Miss Manners would give you a gold star for your "politeness." Bwah... >>O.k., sweetie, don't get upset. BTW, I didn't ask. > > Of course you asked. Um, no. She didn't ask. No questions. No question marks. Just an excuse for Shecky to rant. > See that superfluous comma you inserted, makes it > a question, snidewise but a question nevertheless (in fact it asks > permission). Actually, linguistic moron, her comma is absolutely correct. Unlike the comma you inserted in your sentence after "inserted." I guess you got so excited by the word you just couldn't help yourself. Ooooh, inserted... <pant, pant> Bring back very old memories? Navy days...? <LOL> Her comment remains a declarative sentence. Nothing questioning about it. > And by transporting my name as you did <LOL> "Transporting" your name. "Transporting" = "not deleting" on Planet Sheldon. > you directed your > question directly to me alone, not to mention the small fact that you > responded directly to my post, even reiterated "those 5 parts" that > only I illustrated. But there was no question. So the rest of this rambling excuse for a rationale is just as nonsensical as your illiterate English critique. > And you're the one who is upset... you posted the > same thing twice... must be very important to you... your relationship > with your dishwasher is evidently quite intimate... fuzzy, warm, and > vibrates. Bwah. Poor, horny Sheldon. Everything devolves to his elderly, useless groin... So, just another excuse for Shecky to go off on someone and sling his meaningless insults. After all these years, you'd think he'd be better at it. Pastorio |

I have to agree with Sheldon on this one. Dishwasher instructions usually advice against putting their use for aluminium. I used to have a nice polished aluminium ice cream scoop until someone insisted on sticking it into the dishwasher. Now it is badly pitted. |

I think it's time to set aside the nickname "Shecky" and reinstate the nickname which has dogged Sheldon Katz for most of his life. If you think about the cowardice he shows by slinging these insults from the safety of his computer (but would NEVER have the backbone to utter anything like that in person), the nickname becomes obvious. He's not Sheldon "Shecky" Katz. He's Sheldon "PUSSY" Katz: As I said, he's been called that most of his life -- for obvious reasons. Bob |

Navy shipboard mess cook. He says Martin is his last name. He also says he'll never divulge real personal information. He was in the navy as Sheldon Katz. Who knows if anything he says is even remotely true. He's made enough outright blunders and shown enough plagiarist games that what he actually claims to know is certainly suspect.
