Default Last night's anniversary meal out.

Well, yesterday was Kath and my second anniversary. We couldn't manage a few
days away this time, so instead decided to return to the country hotel/pub
we were married in the gorgeous garden of, have a meal, sit outside and soak
it all in. It is the Calf's Head, in Worston, near Clitheroe. Any of you
ever passing that way, look it up and go there - it really is worth it!

Kath ordered the turkey, stilton and leek pot pie and gave me a taste - it
was delicious - simply but well put together, with the turkey pieces cooked
to a lovely texture, the stilton and leek sauce well balanced indeed.
Hmmm...

Me, well I ordered the lamb with orange and chile - very impressed! So was
Kath. It was mild, but not so much as I get used to eating out - there was
just enough kick to it, the orange complimented the tender lamb pieces
beautifully! Again, quite a simple sauce made with the meat juices, red and
green capsicum, orange, chile, and lightly seasoned. I'll be attempting to
make this one soon I think!

After we'd eaten we went out into the garden with our drinks, wandered
through the garden, remembering where we'd stood that day 2 years ago as we
married each other, had a good laugh about all sorts of things, and just
soaked up the memories amongst the crazy old duck and 3 bold silky hens that
wandered around with us, ordered more drinks, more of the same and really
enjoyed ourselves - it was a fantastic night all round.

Anyway, for our meals, and quite a few drinks indeed (including a double of
some very nice Highland single malt - delicious - annoyed I forgot the name
of it!), only came to £29 - again, impressed! I've eaten at places that cost
twice as much and do not have the excellent level of service these good
folks provide, nor anything like the quality of food - they really are a
star bunch!

This place hosts weddings frequently, and yet the owner spotted us,
remembered our day 2 years earlier, and made a point of coming over at the
end of the night while we were at the bar, congratulating us and offering
best wishes, saying how good it was to see us back there and so happy, even
remembering details of our day and ourselves back to us, then her husband
came over for more of the same - I can't think what we could have done to
have them remember so much about us, but it just finished the night there
off superbly! They really are great people, the staff are relaxed, warm and
friendly, and perfectly attentive without need for prompt.

Anyway, today I have a bit of a heavy head, but still the hugest of smiles!

Later ',;~}~

Congratulations to you both!!

As for the owners - it sounds as though they truly pay attention to
details - which surely must be why they still exist and so such a wonderful
service!

Congratulations to both of you! I can tell from your posts that you're mad

Thanks Debbie! We did, too. We took some time off last year and went away
camping in Silverdale, and had a WONDERFUL time then. This year for various
reasons we couldn't manage that, but what we did was every bit as good, just
quite different.

Merci avec bonté Tammy !

The owners are indeed delightful, and were wonderful to all of us on our
wedding day two years ago too. I just wish there were more places like this!

Thanks heaps Dora! We will have many more indeed - you can't count on it.

Worston is a >tiny< village just on the edge of Clitheroe, in Lancashire's
Ribble Valley, tucked up near the Lancs./Yorks. border. All around is the
most wonderful countryside!

Oh yes! The atmosphere of the whole place is just fantastic because of the
mood of the staff and care the owners take - I wanna see MANY more places
like this start up and do well.

Heheheh, thanks loads Carol! And yes, we are both mad - generally and about
each other, and consider ourselves both gifted and blessed because of it.
The best thing by far about my life so far, is that Kath is in it.

Hey! I played French Horn in High School Orchestra during my Junior Year. I
switched to Bassoon for my Senior year in Orchestra. I played a great spit
valve.
