Default Troll Warnings: They said it themselves

In the last day or so, rfc has been 'hit' with a couple of posts which
didn't make any sense to most people but which were cross-posted to
rec.pets.cats.anecdotes. This is the result of a flame war being conducted
by people from rec.pets.cats.health+behav towards people in
rec.pets.cats.anecdotes for some imagined slight. Much name calling and
killfiling of the cross-posters ensued.

Now they've publicly admitted (via Google) they intend to flood this group
with their crap:

But you know, this could change. It may be time for it to change.
It is never good for people to get to proprietary over newsgroups.
One would not want the sweet people at anecdotes to truly believe
that they have a right to control the content of the group. That would
not be fair to them. It would only mean a ruder awakening later on.
There are, after all, anecdotes about cats in many groups. We
wouldn't want the rpca folks to miss any.

Another thought: when they post recipes, I think we should
share them with the cooking groups! We could make many
more people happy this way!

Spreading happiness is a good thing. I am feeling happier
already."

**********************************************

Let's show them what "clique-y-ness" is all about! Killfile the trolls.
Please do not respond to the cross-posts. They are not interested in food
or food related questions, they just want to stir up a bunch more shit and
now drag this group into the mix. Grrrrrr.

**********************************************

OB Food: looks like it will probably rain. So I'm going to dredge the fish
lightly in Zatarain's fish-fry seasoning and pan-fry it. The seasoning is
lighter than cornmeal (more like a masa meal) and lightly spicy.

All of our posts have been on-topic, Jill. When you post about cooking
in rpca, why not bring in the rec.cooking people? What is the harm?

Mary,

It would be better to not include rpca when you post recipes to rfc.
One problem is that when you cross-post, the replies go to both groups
unless the responders pay attention to where the posts are going. I
don't like it when I find out that my post has gone somewhere I didn't
intend because someone has cross-posted without notifiying people.
Despite the fact that my furry "people" run the show around here, I
don't have the inclination to participate in cat newsgroups.

Thread drift often occurs and it's bad enough when it happens to one
group but there is no need to multiply it by including other groups.

Cross-posting is done only for the convenience of the poster, to
enable him/her to monitor the subject without having to check each
group individually. But it's not beneficial to anyone else.

If someone really wants to get responses from multiple groups, you can
send the posts to the various groups individually (i.e., separate
messages), which takes about a minute to do, then monitor the
responses in each group.

Like I did here ;>

Oh no. How disappointing. Because you guys there in rfc could really
contribute to the frequent cooking conversations we have in rpca.

No you don't!

I see. Are you sure it is that, or is it just that after contributing to a
group
for a while, many people get annoyed by the presence of new posters?

They might have some good cat recipes to share with us.

[snip apocalyptic warning]

It's simple enough. Filter (kf) those articles or participants that do
not add anything to the 'group. If/when one replies to a post by adding
the multiple 'groups back in, simply trim them back out -- again. It's
not that big deal...

By giving them this private platform, you're defeating the very ideals
you are preaching by enhance their already-pitiful egos while giving
them even more reasons to continue their game.

RFC is easily able to withstand this insignificant onslaught from such
amateurish buffoons as Mary, Trish and Candace. I know RPCA and RPCH+B
will both survive this latest eternal September.

Thank you for your opinion. I must say, though, that I have frequently
benefited from information coming from other groups, and cross-posted
into whatever group I am reading. In fact, it has happened in the last
24 hours, with regard to pressure cooking. But thanks, Curly Sue! There
is room for everyone's opinions. That's the beauty of Usenet.

Do you have any cats?

Yes I do. And I see that you have added quite a few groups to my
original post. Which, of course means, as Jill indicated, that you
are trying to be obnoxious.

Either there is very little or I've learned who not to pay attention
to. I don't kill crossposts, but my news reader (Agent) has a warning
popup when a post is crossposted that gives me the option to reply to
the group I'm reading or to all. If I choose "all", I can still trim
the ngs, so I'm not stuck.

I haven't seen any cat/dog bbq posts that weren't a troll. That's why
they are crossposted. Fortunately, either it hasn't happened much
lately or we are better at ignoring it when it does happen - so the
trolls aren't fed and eventually they go fishing elsewhere.

Things are worse over there. They will never notice.

'Ignore thread' is a powerful weapon... ditto killfiles. All the
idiots on rpca were quickly identified and deleted from my machine so
I don't have to worry about them. If they want to do the same thing
here, I'll just add a few more filters!

Nothing happened except that I read an article about data recovery
services and they gave statistics on how many people don't back up
their drives. Which reminded me to do so, so I thought I'd pass along
the thought!

Piggy-backing on Curly Sue's post (sorry CS!):

Mary, you think calling people mud-slinging across newsgroups is "on topic"?
I don't care if it *was* about a cat. It was hugely inappropriate and
childish behavior. We post recipes to distract attention from the trollish
topic. I'm quite sure most of the good folks here have already read the
recipes I've posted over there so I have no need to cross-post them. You,
on the other hand, are just stirring things up on as many groups as you can.

You've conveniently snipped out things to make it appear everything quoted
originated with *me* which is not the case. If you read my original post,
you can see where some people purposely decided to cross-post to rfc just to
stir up some crap. It's their "conspiracy", not mine. I've got them
killfiled but people here can't seem to trim the cross-postings and continue
to reply to them across multiple groups. *That* is why I posted this in the
first place.

There is no conspiracy outside your own head, Jill. These are unmoderated
groups, and I post on-topic and very cordially. Moreover, Bellsouth does
not yank accounts according to who you like and dislike.

Most of us welcome new posters. Keep things refreshing and there is always
something to learn. Sometimes new people want to change the way we've been
doing things for years, but it never works and they either accept us as we
are or leave.

I do find that light fur kitties have sweeter meat than dark fur ones.
They seem to cook faster too.

I have no desire to change the way you do things. I just thought the
cat people could benefit from your knowledge--there are lots of
cooking threads over there!

Thanks, Edwin. She still won't stop the cross-posting and trying to claim
rec.pets.cats.anecdotes doesn't like "newbies" (which is patently
ridiculous). Someone posted an OT post about the new film War of the Worlds
and she replied to it, made it look like *I* cross-posted my reply to
alt.radio.oldtime,alt.radio.broadcasting,alt.ficti on. She's just a
troublemaker, plain and simple. She's now claiming I tried to report
someone to Bellsouth (which happens to be my own ISP and I know for a fact
someone from rpch+b tried to report *me*) and stated, "Moreover, Bellsouth
does
> not yank accounts according to who you like and dislike." I never

reported anyone. She's delusional.

OB Food: It rained (figured it would) so I heated up some leftover pizza
and will see if I can grill the fish tomorrow.

Hey Ranger, take your head out of the oven, and pay attention!

You make this response based on a post Jill sends without any knowledge of
what any of this is about. Now show me where I have messed with you, and
then show me what right you have to post a post with my name in it regarding
something you know jackshit about. I crossposted once by accident to
rec.food.cooking, yet you call me a buffoon, but were too gutless to do it
where I could read it.

I subscribed here tonight to see if what Jill declared is true, so far I see
it isn't. Then I saw your post... so tell me what have I done to you that
you have the right to call me a buffoon?

And Jill I'm talking to Ranger not you...

"Ranger" is one of those mission posters. You know, protectors of
all things rec.cooking, or rec.pets.cats.anecdotes. Very amusing,
and part of the group psychosis that develops when regular posters
decide they MUST ... PROTECT ... THE GROUP ... FROM
OUTSIDERS. Note the language. "RC can survive!! It can!"

So tell me again why we're continuing to discuss it here.

I'm sorry, Wayne. You're absolutely right. I'm letting her get under my
skin and she's not worth it. I've had her killfiled but others keep
replying to her, which only eggs her on, and I'm gritting my teeth. I'll
stop now. Maybe others will, too.

OB FOOD: Hopefully the rain will clear out tomorrow so I can grill my fish
and zucchini. Might even grill some potatoes rather than make couscous; I
got some nice Idaho's I can slice like fairly thick "chips" and throw on
there before I start the fish.

it.

right to ask about them. For starters, what kind are they and what
are their names?

No, that is not the case, Sue. This particular cross-posting campaign
is morally right, and once I fill you in on the background, you will
see why.

There are two main cat groups:

REC.PETS.CATS.HEALTH+BEHAV, where the more intelligent cat fanciers
hang out. They understand that free and unfettered discussion is not
always tidy.

REC.PETS.CATS.ANECDOTES, where brain-dead zombies have taken root.
They want Usenet to be like the Disney Channel, and they have fallen
under the spell of a modern-day Rasputin.

There's the story in a nutshell, and I'm sure you can see now why this
is necessary. We are not trying to ruin your life, and if we do,
we're sorry.

Thank you for your understanding and your valued support.

Charlie

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++

PS. Here is a summer recipe for people with gardens:

Saute some fresh garlic in olive oil in a big frying pan. Cut up a
big handful of fresh basil and throw it on top of the garlic and let
it steam for just a few seconds to wilt it. Remove from heat and let
stand.

Blanch some ripe garden tomatoes, no more than a minute.

Remove skin and seeds and cut up tomato chunks.

Add to olive oil, garlic and basil.

Season with salt.

Stir and allow to stand at room temperature for awhile.

Pour over cooked pasta, the fresh refrigerated stuff if you want to be
fancy, and serve with not too much grated parmesan cheese.

It's a nice dish on a warm summer evening. The idea is to form the
uncooked tomatoes and basil into a simple sauce with no strong herbs
or spices.

I understand, Jill. Just look at the mess I got myself into recently.
It's probably better just to not read it. That's about the onlyi way I can
deal with situations like that.

Tilapia? I have some salmon steaks in the freezer and want to grill them
soon. A friend gave me a recipe for a mint basting sauce that I want to
try. I also love potatoes cooked on the grill. I'm just not overly fond
of zucchini, though, although grilled is probably one of the better ways to
prepare it.

Because Jill is the one who is harassing me. And she does indeed
report everyone she does not like to their ISP, and gets all
of her little rpca friends to do so too.

Jill is a censor and a bully.
