Default An open apology to most of you...

I would like to apologize to *most* of the members here on rfc for having
to read my responses to Sheldon's recent attacks.

I find it impossible to sit back and accept his abuse without retaliation.

Sheldon has exhibited this behavior toward me from the moment I began
posting here. As a result, he was the sole resident of my killfile for
several years. Like a fool, I removed him recently.

What I will never understand is why any of you could accept his attacks on
others and openly criticize those he attacks for retaliating. There is
absolutely nothing sacrosanct about any of his contributions that justifies
his vile behavior.

He and those of you who obviously support his actions will now share
company in my killfile permanently.

It is, indeed, nice to know that the vast majority of people here are
really quite wonderful!

Thank you...

I'm thinking you might want to re-examine why a newsgroup takes on so much
importance in your life. Perhaps you need to leave the house more, interact
with people in real life, that sort of thing.

Really---it's a pleasant little diversion, certainly. But to get this upset
over a newsgroup, or to let someone like Sheldon aggravate you this much,
there's a problem. Sheldon is who he is. Period. He does what he does.
That's never going to change. You can either grow thicker skin and learn to
co-exist with people you don't like, or you can find other ways to entertain
yourself that don't include the people you consider to be assholes. I'm
never gonna change Greg or Jill and you're never gonna change Sheldon. So
either learn to cope with him (or whoever else you can't tolerate), or learn
to not let him bother you so much. And if that means less time in RFC,
then a person has to do what a person has to do.

Only you can control the degree YOU ALLOW this person to upset you....don't
let him upset you, and you will be a much happier person. It's only a
newsgroup, for heaven's sake. Grow up and be a man and learn to cope with
people you don't like. And sometimes being a grownup means knowing when it's
time to go.

I've been lurking on this group for several years, and have just
recently started posting. And, except for tonight's somewhat snotty
post - which could be construed as supporting you, supporting Sheldon,
or just simply being a smart-ass, I've never gotten involved.

That being said, and speaking only for myself...I know I read Sheldon's
posts - and the replies - for the same reason I watch car wrecks in
NASCAR races....I'm utterly fascinated and ashamed at myself for not
being able to turn away.

Hi Wayne--I'm pretty new to this forum, but from my limited time here,
I've realized that Sheldon is a piece of work.

No need to apologize to me--you are quite within your rights to defend
yourself. People who spew unprovoked hateful crap in a newsgroup
operate at their own risk IMHO. Just don't let anyone really get to
you, though--it gives that person way too much power over you.

Have a great 4th!

Thank you for your note, Sheryl. You are certainly right about several
things. Sheldon will never change nor will he go away until the day he
dies.

Participating in newsgroups should indeed be a pleasant diversion and,
while I may not be able to control his behavior, I can certainly eliminate
him permanently from my life. He was in my killfile for several years.
Why I ever removed his name is beyond me. Perhaps I thought he deserved
another chance or that he might have changed. Obviously not. He has been
returned to my killfile permanently.

I have never placed inordinate importance on this or any other newsgroup.
Usenet is not my life, however, I don't of know anyone who readily turns
the other cheek to such repeated insults and vile disparaging remarks, and
that applies to any venue. I have never encountered anyone like Sheldon in
my entire life. Thank God for that!

Really, this is a great group full of very enjoyable, entertaining, and
intelligent people. As far as I'm concerned, the flaw has now been
eliminated. I only regret that I didn't do it immediately upon his first
spew of venom.

Cheers!

Haven't had to time to read or post for a while - other more pressing
engagements. I haven't read this latest flame war, but just want to
say, you, Wayne, are a sensible, involved and courteous poster and I
always like what you write about cooking. Sheldon, I find strange and
weird but my face just colours and I turn to the next respondent. I
secretly wish he would disappear but suddenly he surprises and says
something sane (not often I would grant).
Sheryl has some sage advice to handle the situation.

You're right though. this ng has some wonderful people and those are
the ones we should be concentrating on....

Ok, that's my little soapbox speel.

Thank you, r3! His effect on me is only temporary, and now I'll never see
it again. I learned my lesson by ever letting him out of my killfile in
the first place. He is truly the only person of his ilk I have ever
encountered.

Hope you have a great 4th, as well!

Wayne if you feel you must continue to talk about Sheldon, and your
filtering of him... isn't he really still taking up too much space in
your head? Stop talking about him, stop telling others to stop talking
about him (or to him) and just let it die. That's MY advice.

Had you not posted this message, I wouldn't have known anything about
it. Ignore him. What I have found over the years is that these types
are sad little people with sad little lives. They deserve our pity
more than anything else.

And good advice it is, Goomba. I have nothing more to say about Sheldon,
with the exception of replies to those who replied to my last post.

Okay, I felt I needed a break, but I'm stronger than I thought, and I'm
not going to sit by while Wayne plays the friggin' martyr.

For the second time in less than a month, Wayne has sent me nasty
e-mails because his sick little brain interprets my refusal to take
sides between Sheldon and him to be a betrayal of our friendship. I
wrote back and told him not to write back to me anymore, and he did not
honor that request. I deleted his second e-mail, unread.

He is NOT a nice man, you guys. He's just playing the martyr card for
all it's worth, and if you ask me, it's not worth much.

He's a colorful person, that's for sure. I don't feel the need to hate
him because he goes off sometimes, though. I don't think there's
anyone in this newsgroup who I hate. There are some that just don't
warrant my time reading their posts, but I certainly don't hate them.
And I refuse to hate on demand to fullfill the warped sensibilities of
another person.

While I agree with the assessment that Sheldon is a sad little person with a
sad little life, I disagree with your follow-on judgment. What people like
that *deserve* is a sharp slap across the face, repeated as often as
necessary.

I agree with that. There is a very old song from the 1890s entitled,
"She's More to Be Pitied than Censured". I think it applies here.

Cheers, and a very happy 4th!

It is a bit odd, in real life one would shun 'sheldon' but i was amazed
to see such vehemence here, despite the reputation of RFC, as a
contentious group, 'sheldon' is still, never the less, trying mightily,
to be, IMO, beyond the pale, in the schtetle sense.

Joseph,
Here's a few of my extra commas: ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
You look like you could use them more than me. ;-)

Best regards,
Bob

P.S. Hey Wayne if you read this, knock it off already. If you
apologized, there shouldn't be any more to discuss. Going on and on
about it looks like you are just using Sheldon to get attention.

Me? Needle somebody? Why I'm internationally known and admired for my
serenity and humility.

Humility? I'm the humblest person I've ever met. There's no one humbler.
I'm extremely proud of my deep, abiding humility. I go up against
anybody and out-humble them with one chakra tied behind my satori.

Serene almost to the point of somnolence - laid back, never get excited.
Soaring along on the airy human currents that softly sweep and wash over
the land.

Needling Sheldon? What Sheldon. Is there a Sheldon? Has there ever been
a Sheldon?

And did I mention how much I hate exaggeration...?

No, seriously...

Pastorio (And who's this, um, Sheldon...?)

Bob, I'm only replying to those who had something to say to me, as I am
replying to you. If you don't wish to read it, then don't.

Cheers!

Revise that last sentence by making the comma a period, and deleting
all words after it.

It's very interesting that some of you feel it's perfectly alright to
chastise the victim while having nothing at all to say to perpetrator.

I don't recall the incident you speak of, but don't beat yourself up
over it. I believe I hold the current RFC record for rudeness and
obscenity, and I'm working real hard to make sure it doesn't happen
again. It IS very easy to lose your temper with some folks
(especially when they accuse you of raping your daughter) but it's not
worth it to get all worked up over a "virtual personality". I have to
believe he's not like this at all in real life - otherwise someone
would have "offed" him by now <G>. In spite of everything, now I find
Sheldon more entertaining and humorous. I had him killfiled for a
while, but RFC just wasn't the same. You know Wayne, it's amazing
just how much some people transform when sitting behind a keyboard.
They say stuff that would get them beat to a pulp if they tried it in
the real world. It's a psychological mystery, because many people are
transparently "real" online, while others adopt a dark side. Who
knows?

You have no apology to make, Wayne. You are absolutely right! Sheldon is
just as bad as any spammer. He is in my killfile too.

Now you learned your lesson! Killfiles were invented for twits like
sheldoon. Removing him from your killfile is like having a tumor put back
in.

If you knew the whole story, you might not say that. Of course, people often
say only what they want you to hear.

Wayne - I do understand, but as others have said, don't let it get to you!
I've taken my share of shots at the stupid doof, but that is because I can,
and not because he upsets me. The one slight exception, is when he attacks
someone else who is obviously not built to take such, and upsets them - then
yeah, I'm mad for them, but at the same time, Usenet really does require one
to have a thick skin, or suffer for the lack of it - it's a chaotic medium
at best!

A K/F is one thing I've never employed - no one has ever bothered me for me
to use one, and Shelly is a pussycat compared to some I've had tussles with!
The more vicious they get, the more I just LMFAO at them, heheheh...

Cheers Wayne ',;~}~
