Default What to bring?

My wife is going to a wedding shower this weekend and has been asked to
bring along a fruit tray as her contribution to the goodies. There are
about 24 people expected and we're wondering how much and what to
consider putting into this.

3-4 types of melons, maybe some grapes, strawberries, oranges, apples
and what else and how much? Ideas???

If the other 23 are bringing goodies also, then I think that is way too
many types of fruit. I would suggest 2 melons, grapes and strawberries.

Oh, sorry guess I wasn't all that clear. There are only a few bringing
goodies and only one bringing fruit.

I take back my comment then. I personally think that 4 types of melons is
too many, but if your wife likes melons, then I think that her fruit
should reflect that. Pineapple wedges are another popular party food, if
they aren't too outrageously expensive.

Sounds like you have more than enough covered. Some ideas? Well cut
the melons in half then scoop out a half melon of each type and fill
it with red/green seedless grapes, cherries, and the other fruits.
Then cut up the remaining melon halves into little cubes and arrange
around the filled melon halves. If you want to go through the effort,
you can make tempura bannanas to arrange on the tray also.

I've always wanted to make one of these:

Seems like that would be enough for her gathering...

Go with what the best fruit is. Underripe melon is lousy.

How about a sweetish dip, like sour cream sweetened with some white
grape juice concentrate? A little bowl with sweetened coconut shreds to
dip the peices in?
I personally think fruit should have a bit of cracker and cheese with
it, if they are both top quality.

For my baby shower, a girlfriend carved a watermelon into a pram /
stroller! She carved about 1/4 of the shell off the melon ad hollowed
it out, then made "wheels" from slices of orange. It was a really cute
way to serve a fruie salad.

KISS. I'd do the fruit kabobs. Strawberry, grape, pineapple chunk.
I'd skip the apples and bananas because they'll darken with standing. I
don't like to give people too many choices.

I knew you'd be the one to come up with the reason women have only two
breasts... 'cause men are so easily confused!

Hey, you said it, not me. I just like to keep things simple - cut to

I would think 4 to 6 ounces of sliced, diced fruit per person would be more than
plenty.

24 people
4 OZ per person
--------------
96 ounces
16 ounces per pound
----------------------
6 pounds of fruit is more than enough you'll have leftovers.

You would need 9 pounds for 6 oz per person - way too much

Don't forget to toss the fruit with/in lemon juice to slow discoloration.
