Default Technical assistance for those using Google Groups

It's considered standard usenet courtesy to quote the message you are
replying to, after trimming out unnecessary parts. The new Google
interface makes that non-intuitive.

Basically, DON'T use the Reply button at the bottom of the message.
Next to the sender line is another button labeled, "show options".
Click that. The message header will expand, and you will find a number
of new buttons available:

Reply | Reply to Author | Forward | Print | Individual Message | Show
original | Report Abuse

Use the Reply there and you'll get normal quoting and attributions.
Trim out extraneous material, then post your reply interspersed with or
after the quotes. This will help you in communicating on this and other
newsgroups.

Thank you. The "show options" is dimmed on my screen.
It won't give me those options, but this is the first post I have been
able to make from this (ancient) computer in a couple of weeks. At
least now the "reply" at the bottom of the post sent me the familiar
"log in" stuff and the opportunity to respond. Hope this works!

Just a guess, but you might be using an older browser. I tried it with
Netscape 4.7 and the show options, while clickable, doesn't do
anything.
