I'm not even 100% sure he is sincere in his concern for the environment, his priority appears to more towards self-aggrandizement and showing off to other people. |

The stovetop has electronic ignition for the burners but they are easily lit with a match or one of those long-nose barbecue lighters when the power is off. |

If I were desperate, I would pull it out from the wall and run an extension cord to my portable generator. But I can likely get by with just the stove top. Except with our goofy government these days, I wouldn't be surprised if power outages become more common and lengthy. But then I thought there might be something like this out the https://www.target.com/p/coleman-camp-oven/-/A-77308035 https://www.amazon.com/Omnia-Oven-st.../dp/B000YLJQ5U https://afreenskitchen.wordpress.com...15/stone-oven/ Interesting, but I think I can just wait it out. |

I'm not at all aware Bryan is an alcoholic but it explains things. Are you saying the beer you mention goes towards his bizarre outbursts? Normal people here should not have to be put up with behaviours caused by drug or alcohol abuse. |

I just got my new electric bill and I itemized it all. (just curious) Basic charge per month...just connection fees and taxes was $20. You pay that each month regardless of how much power you use. Then is the actual charge for electricity used. My bill was for $30.09. So, my actual fee for electricity used was only about $10 last month. It's nuclear generated. For $10 a month or a bit mo - refridgerator running 24/7 - tv on most of the day - desktop computer on 24/7 - answering machine on 24/7 - small fan running 24/7 - Kitchen and bedroom lights 24/7 Those are the constant uses. Add the occasional lights that go on and off, microwave, furnace fan when heat is on, laptop computers on, etc etc. Bottom line - no complaints about my electic bills. |

I can't imagine it required removal of the meter, though. The gas utility should be able to shut off the supply at the meter and lock the meter. Just as they do when people don't pay their bill. We'd never lost power for more than a few hours or a day, at most, before. Our lovebirds had just become parents of three hatchling (not even decent feathers yet) and the temp in the house dropped quite a bit each night, as the heat was out, but we did have hot water. Each evening I'd fill small hot water bottles and screw-top jars and put them against the insides of the cage. Then I'd wrap the cage in a thick bath towel overnight to keep in as much heat as possible. |

Connection fee aside, there's a monthly fee even if you use no electricity or gas.... as I was told it's the expense of maintaining the account. We have two electric meters and get two bills even if we use no electric. The 2nd meter is from the rental house that we had demolished but retained the electric service for our two barns and outdoor lighting. We actually save a small amount because we don't exceed the maximim on each meter to go into the higher rate. Dividing our electric use between two accounts reduces our total cost... not a lot but would have been silly to forego the savings. And since the electrician was working here anyway we saved by having two meters, if all on one meter we would have had to increase the service from 100 amps to 200 amps, a lot more labor and the cost of much heavier wire, the wire run is 325 feet... all buried, we didn't want a couple of poles. The big savings is in all outdoor lighting is now LED, and changed most indoor lighting fixtures to LED... lowered our electric cost by more than half. Too bad for Kootchie that they don't make an LED Leaf! LOL |

> I'm not at all aware Bryan is an alcoholic but it explains things. I would not call him an alcoholic exactly. I'm not sure if there is a clinical definition, but I have always used the metric that 'alcoholic' means that chronic abuse of alcohol has resulted in serious loss, such as break-up of a relationship, job loss, or injury resulting from a drunken decision. Bryan has always maintained a stable marriage and career. What he is probably facing now is long-term bodily damage from almost daily beer consumption. Likely it is usually less than needed for inebriation, but it has been continual for decades. I hope he can get it together and become as healthy as possible. > Are you saying the beer you mention goes towards his bizarre outbursts? He mentioned it. And I would not use the word 'bizarre'. What he does is just trollish posturing & pontification, both fairly common here. > Normal people here should not have to be put up with > behaviours caused by drug or alcohol abuse. I do not think most people here are 'normal'. In fact, everyone is so different it escapes me somewhat how a normal person is supposed to act. And society does not put up it when it endangers others. Summer outages are not so bad, but in winter the hot water bottles really help. The only fireplace is in the living room, and it gets cold at night. |

Drug abuse of ALL types (including prescription drugs) is endemic throughout all communities and demographics, you bigot. Very revealing about you but not surprising given your off-center stance on 'drugs'. Maybe you should take a good look at yourself |

Neodome, maybe that's true in America (especially with prescription opiates) but not everywhere. > Very revealing about you but not surprising given your off-center > stance on 'drugs'. Maybe you should take a good look at yourself So I should start taking drugs to get in with the hip crowd and gain your approval? No thanks. |
