Default Strawberry Onions

Never hears of such a thing but at the farm stand the owner gave me one.
Very sweet, great for salads and the greens are too. Like a scallion
but the size of a small grapefruit.

Why do they plant onions around Strawberry Fields?
Farmers plant strawberry onions around the perimeter of strawberry
fields to help keep pests away from the strawberries. ... They're
typically a big, sweet onion variety like Vidalia or Savannah Hybrid.
They're sold as €śstrawberry onions€ť at farm stands.
