Age 60 is too old to be skating? I never got that memo.

Maybe I should sell my skateboard and rollerblades.
Might as well get rid of the snowboard and bicycle too.
I'll toss in my surfboard as a bonus.

I did, this past week, offer to give my snowboard to my grandsons next
time they come. Never snows here and no good hills if it did.
They'll get more use out of it if they're interested.

Shit, my husband wouldn't have met any "standards" when I met him.
35 years later, we're still going strong.

I don't disagee, Cindy. While physical attraction is the first thing
you notice about a stranger, it's their personality that is long lasting
and the most important thing.

Dating at older age, the physical attraction is gone. Only good way to
meet someone now is to be in some group setting where you get to know
someone well. A night class at a college is good as are churches if you
want to do that. Covid virus has put a stop to all that for now.

In the past, I've met many attractive older women but most of them are
married. We became good friends (much to the dismay of some husbands),
but I don't go after married women...never. Those husbands needn't worry
about me just being a friend of their wives.

Gary has made it clear he wouldn't go out with a woman who wears red
lipstick. <shrug>

There are plenty of attractive men and women over the age of 60. It
seems (from his posts) Gary has a problem with women who wear makeup.
Makeup doesn't have to be garish or over the top. I'm not sure where
he's seeing these women he thinks he would have to lower standards for.

BTW, I don't care if he's interested in "dating" anyone. It is of no
consequence.

Gary's immature. He has a misogynist little boy attitude towards
women.

You've got that right, Jill. I never have nor ever would date a woman
with red lipstick. That's just too oddball for words. Maybe for a
Halloween party date and she's dressed as a clown.

My wife is a babe at 74. Her sister is a babe at 83. The last time I saw
my aunt she was 88 and looked great.

OK, now you're exaggerating.

You're morphing the conversation here, Dave. Old women can certainly be
attractive unless they try to hang on to youth via gobs of makeup. That
doesn't work so well. It often makes things worse.

The talk was about sexually attractive. I would never describe any old
woman as a "babe."

My father was in his 30s when he taught me to skate. He fell and broke
his wrist. The first winter we lived here, my neighbour, who was about
40, was teaching his son to skate. He fell and broke his wrist. The new
neighbour cleaned the snow off the pond in his front yard and was
teaching his son how to skate. I could not help but think of those other
two fathers.

Has snowboard technology and equipment changed much? I took up skiing in
my mid 40s and was surprised to see how much different skis, boots and
bindings were than they had been when I was a kid. My old skis would be
antiques on the slopes these days. Boots, bindings and skis have all
changed again.

It changes all the time. Mostly boards getting shorter (just like skis
have over the years). Mine is only about 10 years old so not much
change since then.

It *IS* maybe a bit long for my young grandkids right now until they
grow taller. I don't expect a visit in the next month or two so this
will be for them next winter.

Just something extra for them to play with next winter to see if they
even like the sport. If they do, then they can ask mom&dad for more
customized ones.

There's been a lot of change in the past ten years, skis, boots,
bindings... they wouldn't permit you on the slopes with your ancient
equipment. My wife skis and is constantly buying new in order to
comply, a new helmet almost every year. This year she even bought new
heated socks and mittens, powered from a rechargeable battery pack
worn on the waist. Years ago people would carry skis on a roof rack,
now they are short enough to fit inside the cars, even the new mini
vehicles. They won't allow people on the slopes with the old long
skis anymore, or the old style boots/bindings.
The older heated socks and gloves were powered with D cells strapped
to wrists and ankles, too many accidents with D cells flying off. The
long skis caused too many serious accidents getting on and off the
lifts. The new helmets are stronger, more comfortable, and permit
much better visibility. The newer tags are GPS enabled so they can
find you if you fall off the mountain or are covered in an avalanche.
I don't ski because I can't tolerate heights... a 6 foot ladder is
about my limit. My wife is an excellent skier, she skis the Blacks
but doesn't take risks, she's careful, as she puts it she skis to ski
another day.
