The Ant and The Grasshopper

A Grasshopper frolicked while an Ant stored food for the winter. When winter came the Ant was comfortable; the Grasshopper not so...

MORAL: Prepare for the future....!!!

"IN the winter season a commonwealth of Ants was busily employed in the management and preservation of their corn; which they exposed to the air, in heaps, round about the avenues of their little country habitation. A Grasshopper, who had chanced to outlive the summer, and was ready to starve with cold and hunger, approached them with great humility, and begged that they would relieve his necessity, with one grain of wheat or rye. One of the ants asked him, how he had disposed of his time in summer, that he had not taken pains, and laid in a stock, as they had done. Alas, Gentlemen, says he, I passed away the time merrily and pleasantly, in drinking, singing, and dancing, and never once thought of winter. If that be the case, replied the Ant, laughing, all I have to say is, That they who drink, sing, and dance in the summer, must starve in the winter..."

"ONE summers day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its hearts content. An Ant passed by, bearing an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.

€œWhy not come and chat with me,€ said the Grasshopper, €œinstead of toiling in that way?€

€œI am helping to lay up food for the winter,€ said the Ant, €œand recommend you do the same.€

€œWhy bother about winter?€ said the Grasshopper; €œwe have plenty of food now.€

The Ant went on its way. When winter came the Grasshopper had no food and found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer..."

"THE ants were spending a fine winters day drying grain collected in the summertime. A Grasshopper, perishing with famine, passed by and earnestly begged for a little food. The Ants inquired of him, €œWhy did you not treasure up food during the summer? He replied, €œI had not leisure enough. I passed the days in singing.€ They then said in derision: €œIf you were foolish enough to sing all the summer, you must dance supperless to bed in the winter...€

"AS summer is the season of the year in which the industrious and laborious husbandman gathers and lays up such fruits as may supply his necessities in winter, so youth and manhood are the times of lift; which we should employ and bestow inlaying in such a stock of all kinds of necessaries, as may suffice for the craving demands of helpless old age. Yet, notwithstanding the truth of this, there are mauy of those which we call rational creatures, who live in a method quite opposite to it, and make it their business to squander away, in a profuse prodigality, whatever they get in their younger days: as if the infirmity of age would require no supplies to support it; or, at least, would find them administered to it in some miraculous way. From this fable we learn this admirable lesson, never to lose any present opportunity of providing against the future evils and accidents of life. While health, and the flower and vigour of our age remain firm and entire, let us lay them out to the best advantage; that, when the latter days take hold of us, and spoil us of our strength and abilities, we may have a store moderately sufficient to subsist upon, which we laid up in the morning of our age....?

You could have bought a nice little house that didn't require 120% of its
value in repairs. Your poor decision resulted in the outcome that you

A low paying job, even a minimum wage one is better than no money.
You can still continue trying to get a better one while working at a low

Reckless schmeckless, idiotic spending, a total waste of money.
Next time you need groceries eat your roof. No sane person spends
more to repair a roof than the entire property can sell for. And
don't say you will never sell it, when you get hungry enough you will
sell, and for way less than you paid... before that new roof you'd be
lucky to recoup 75’ on the dollar. Before the roof you sunk in more
than that house is worth. You overpaid for that house simply because
you were given the money for free, NOT EARNED IS NOT VALUED.
An unemployable schmuck... no one will ever hire your unskilled ass.
Kootchie is incapable of holding a job washing wiping towels at a car
wash... with his driving record no one would trust him to drive cars.

My bipolar cousin blew her inheritance too. I had been Power of Attorney
for her mother... because cousin was not competent. My older brother was
the executor. We tried to talk her into letting us set up a trust fund
that we could use to buy her a house and things she needed. She could
have rented rooms to students. Nope. She wanted the money ASAP. As soon
as she got it she bought a car and a non winterized cabin a couple
hundred miles north.

She ended up blowing all the money and losing the house. Now she is back
in the city and living on welfare. It's a damned shame. She had
inherited a lot of money and she blew it all.

He's straight on the road to homelessness, and it will happen much, much sooner rather than "later"...

Best thing for him to do is to file for SSDI because of his mental state, that way he will have an income. But that process takes a year or so, and he also insists he's going to get some great nursing gig - NOT! This guy has a real knack for "deferring" important life decisions, he has NO idea of the dangerous place he is in...

I've seen this many times with bi - polars, they get some money and immediately go into a MANIC phase, spending it like water...they all end up in *very* dire straits...

Wal Mart pays $15/hour. They're unlikely to be concerned about all of
the stuff on the internet that has resulted in him having pretty much
zero chance of getting any job in the medical field. All he has to do
is make it to 62, and he can start taking early SS. At worst, he can

It may sound like that to you but we tried. As I pointed out, I was my
aunt's PoA, not my cousins, and my brother was executor of our aunt's
estate. She had a (half) brother who was a closer relationship to her
than we were... not that she would listen to him.

She was a pain in the ass to deal with. When my father had the PoA the
cousin tried to get him to buy her a car so that she could visit her
mother. Mother and daughter were both in Toronto, which has a great
public transit system, but she only went to visit her mother once or
twice year. When Dad refused she sicced a lawyer on him. the lawyer
got a reply that apparently scared her off pursing that threat. After
my father died she tried the same stunt on me. After her mother had the
stroke another stroke and death was just a matter of time, cousin called
me to come and sign her out of the hospital so her mother could "die at
home". There was no home, Her mother had been in the dementia wing of a
long term care home for years. Cousin rented a room in a house somewhere.

We tried out best. My brother and I took the day off to drive into the
city to help her make the funeral arrangements and then took her out for
supper. A lot of the conversation was about letting us set up a trust
fund. Since out aunt had already died, and had never arranged for a
trust fund, we could not do it after the fact unless her daughter
agreed.... and she refused.

BTW I only had PoA for a short time. My father arranged for me to take
it over in Sept (98), He died a month later, and my aunt died less than
3 months later.

Who cares. It cost six figures. You paid SIX FIGURES just for a roof

He should invest in a decent felt pen. Cardboard can be had for free.

Right. Walmart doesn't really care about the college education that is
irrelevant to the job he may be applying for. They are likely to be
concerned about his lack of recent job experience. He claims to be a
nurse, but he hasn't really worked as a nurse for years. He has some
huge gaps in his employment history.

I hope he gets one of those super large/fat felt pens. It will make his sign
so much easier to read. I hope it will not read "WILL WORK FOR FOOD"
It just needs to say "HOMELESS & HUNGRY, PLEASE HELP" Also, he doesn't
need to drive his super-duper Prius to his favorite corner; that won't go over
well. Just ride his bike there and home, if he still has a home.

Right. That will be one of his biggest stumbling blocks to employment
at most any place. They'll want to know what's he's been doing for years
and is now needing a job? Of course, he can always just say "I was RICH,
RICH, RICH!!!"

His megalomania will shine through when he tells them he has three degrees
and is a registered nurse. They'll want to know why he is working at ___________
and not in a hospital? Whatever answer he blurts out will surely produce some
sidelong glances.

Maybe you could convince him to keep his damn mouth shut.

Nah, you'll just plant a big wet kiss on his ass, then whine about
the whole thing.

I'd much rather work with an ex - felon who spent time behind bars than John. The ex - felon can explain, "I made some wrong choices in life, I paid my dues and changed my tune. I'm now working hard to do the right thing now and in the future..."

I've assisted many such in gaining good employment, works out very well for everyone. John, I wouldn't touch...he has NOTHING to show for the last few years...

And if he does apply at Walmart or wherever, he'd be wise to not boast about "I HAVE THREE DEGREES!", that is an IMMEDIATE red flag to an interviewer...

In time, the truth about the sudden disappearance of his tenants and
why he is no longer a landlord will come to light. Anyone care to
speculate on what event took place to cause this sudden change?
