I guess they don't like the looks of his accommodations if he posts pictures.
If anyone is looking for permanent quarters they'd like their own kitchen and
personal bathroom, not sharing the john with the landlord.

What he can say is that he didn't think he'd have to work again, that
he'd retired, and had bought a house near a university, where the income
from renters would support him until he gets Social Security, but that
Covid has left him with no renters, and he realizes that he needs some
additional income for the next few years. That's all plausible, and
essentially true. He, of course, should leave out anything that would
prejudice them against him. He could add that he is single, and has
open availability, meaning that he can work any shift.

A couple of years of not being employed is easily explained that way--I
thought that I was retiring, but now I've realized that I need the
money, and I kind of miss working. It could be a grocery store. Wal
Mart was just an example.

It's like this, the only person here who has any excuse to want John to
crash and burn is me, and I hope that he gets a job that will tide him
over until retirement. It's just not fun to hate him anymore, even if
he starts libeling me again.

Covid-19. It would be the same for anyone with his business plan. If
my rental property was dependent upon university students, I'd be facing
that same reduced demand.

There are very few on campus students. His rental scheme wasn't
completely unreasonable. He lived in shared housing with university
students for years, though having the landlord sharing the house might
have been a bit offputting. Still, it might have been viable if not for
Covid.

He could offer rooms for rent, in a rooming house situation, if the city
fathers in Bel Nor would allow for that. When I moved out when I was
17, I first moved into a crappy motel room that rented by the week, but
then I briefly moved into a mens rooming house where I had one tiny
room, and shared one full and one half bathroom.

IMO, rather than tell them he's been unemployed for 3-4 years, just say
I've been self-employed but it didn't make enough money. If they ask
what, "home improvement" wouldn't be a lie. No need to tell them that it
was his own home.

Actually Joan, many people share houses or apartments. It's a good
inexpensive way to live as long as the people get along well. No problem
sharing kitchen or bathrooms...a family of 2-4 do the same thing. Main
thing is to have your own bedroom and John offers that.

It wouldn't be my first choice in accommodation, we have all seen the
photos. Plus imagine having to live in the same house as John--- and
as your landlord. It would be uncomfortable and awkward trying to
avoid him all the time.

Yes. Scary way to live. Especially with a creepy old guy who lusts

Yes, many people do share houses and apartments and yes, it is an inexpensive
way to live. Would I want to share a house with you or any other stranger
including the bathroom and kitchen?? Absolutely not. But sharing with the
family or a roommate is different. I'd not want to rent a room with shared
facilities with a stranger which is what John is offering.

Everyone here thinks your mental illness is far more severe... you
should just STFU and feel lucky that your mommy didn't abort you and
flush your remains down a NYC Subway toilet. I'd have sliced you into
bits and flushed you down a Staten Island ferry toilet for the
horseshoe crabs.

My middle brother and I were roomates for a few years starting in the
1980's. He had his side of the house (2 bedrooms, one of which he used
as an office), two full bedroom closets and a private full bathroom. A
door that closed his space off from the rest of the house.

I had one bedroom with a private bathroom on the other side of the
house. We shared a living space and the kitchen. It worked out well
for a number of years.

Not at all the same thing Kuthe planned with his "shared student living".

That's quite doable. He's a relative but y'all had separate bedrooms and
importantly each had their own bathroom.

Don't you have student houses in the US? One house, 5 students, shared
bathroom, shared living room, separate personal (bed)rooms? I agree it
would be strange to have a landlord in that mix who could be your
(grand)father, but if it's clean, affordable and close to uni, who
cares?

And knew how to share common areas without being intrusive. Split costs
straight down the middle. More importantly, we had mutual and separate
friends, we had jobs, so it wasn't just the two of us stuck together in
a house.

It's not bad, for college student. Not much different from living in a dorm.
In the summer of '77 I sublet a room in a house that had three random guys
in it. We all respected each other's privacy.

Yes, we do. Often the landlord wants to rent out the entire house
rather than individual rooms, so a group of friends will club together
and lease it.
