Default Having a premade Fruit Snack this evening!

I've been getting such HUGE cantaloupes I split my Fruit Snacks in half and eat one half fresh and put the other half in the fridge.

I gently warm the refrigerated half on my microwave's "Time Defrost" setting for 30mins set to "Power Level" 1.

30 minutes "power level 1" is the equivalent of 3 minutes at high
power. Sheeit - Gary cooks raw chicken at that setting.

I assume he meant 3 minutes on "power level 1" but I still
don't know why he would want to heat it. It's a cold fruit
dessert with ice cream.

I would assemble that fruit snack early, then refrigerate
it in a covered bowl until time to eat it later.

> Sheeit - Gary cooks raw chicken at that setting.

Cooking chicken in a microwave works well if you do it
right and don't need a crispy skin. Certainly NOT all
in 3 minutes though. Takes a series of small steps
in a covered bowl.

No, he meant 30 minutes. It's not the first time he's posted that.

Good grief, I'm supposing the dummy doesn't know he can heat that cantaloupe
at 30 or 40% power for 3 minutes and dope would get the same results. It would
not be cooked, just warmed through.

Don't try to explain that to Gary. He's John's most recent "champion".

No. It doesn't. Cooking meat in a microwave is so wrong.
Even *thawing* frozen raw meat in a microwave is wrong.
In the First Circle of Hell, you get to eat meat, at least
occasionally, but it's cooked in a microwave. The folks
consigned there will know that had they just been a bit
more virtuous, they'd be chowing down on deep fried
chicken in Heaven for eternity. You'd be like, "Ha, I
actually *like* microwaved meat," which would **** off
The Devil. I'd suggest that you pretend to not like
microwaved chicken, but those damned Usenet archives...

You could cook a hot dog in a microwave and it'll come out okay although some folks might say that a hot dog ain't "meat." I'm going to cook chicken hindquarters in a rotisserie tonight and tomorrow, the remainder will be cooked sous vide and fried. It'll be chicken heaven alright - especially for the chickens because they'll be dead.

Hot dogs are not raw. You can't "cook a hot dog in a microwave,"
because they're already cooked.

You've described your fruit snacks with ice cream.
Why do you warm up the half cantaloupe?
I would think all of the fruit should be chilled
then ice cream added when it's time to eat.

I like the warmth of the fruit to melt the ice cream to make yummy cream/fruit sauce.

Stupidmarket canteloupe is awful, it's picked green and once picked
any melon doesn't ripen... they're picked unripened to survive
transportation. We grow our own, once you've eaten vine ripened melon
you'll never go back.

I HEAR THAT Sheldon!

First or second year I composted my front Garden Beds we has a voluntary cantaloupe plant which produced one of the best cantaloupes I ever ate! :-)

You get one guess and that doesn't count.

It would be different if he was baking some sort of fruit tarts or
making a cobbler to top with ice cream. Heated up cantaloupe? YUK.

I didn't say I was BAKING them, I was warming them from refrigerator to room temp. as I'm about to do with a spoiling cantaloupe I put in the refrigerator earlier this evening. I may compost 1/2 and buy a new one tomorrow.

Who mentioned anything about baking? Nice wastage of produce, too. All
that wasted fossil fuels was all for nothing. You made an American
eagle cry. I hope you're proud.

Warming a refrigerated melon for 30 minutes in a microwave?Â* I don't
care what setting you have it on, that is beyond cooked.

Nope, not if you set the microwave setting low and long enough.

Comes out barely warm!

Dipshit!

Why is it in your fridge... only if cut open does it need
refrigeration. Melons live in the hot sun all growing season.
Once harvested keep it on your kitchen counter for up to 48 hours.
Melons do not ripen further once harvested... what you think you
smell as ripeness is the odor of fermentation/rot. Melons should not
be cut until it's time to eat them... pineapple the same. Some fruit
will ripen after harvest; tomatoes, pears, bananas... many will not.
Odds of anyone eating a field ripened pineapple on the US mainland is
very rare, only if someone brings it to you from where it's grown,
field ripened pineapple does not ship well... the closest you'll come
to field ripened pineapple on the US mainland is canned. Hawaii
doesn't grow much pineapple anymore, that real estate is too valuable
for farming. Most pineapple is grown in the Philipines, where labor
is far cheaper.

Likely. Do keep in mind there's a slightly longer growing season where
he lives but still... He puts them in the refrigerator because he's
buying it thinking "How nice and ripe!" right before it spoils. He said
so: "as I'm about to do with a spoiling cantaloupe I put in the
refrigerator earlier this evening. I may compost 1/2 and buy a new one
tomorrow." (compost the whole thing)

He's either buying already spoiling fruit or he is buying far too many
than he can consume before they spoil (even with refrigeration). It
appears he's eating cantaloupe every day. He tends to get into food
ruts. Not that long ago he was constantly posting about mangos. Can you
say fruit of the month?

Yep

In this house, even in winter, any fruit kept in the fridge doesn't
get 'warmed up' in a microwave. How bloody soft do you need to be to
be traumatised by chilled fruit?

My wife doesn't like chilled fruit. She grew up in Belize and hardly
anyone had a refrigerator back then. In summer room temperature there
can be over 90ºF. Everyone there ate tropical fruit, many items you
won't see in US markets.

Yep, me too! I prefer NOT my fruit be chilled for eating, hence my application of 30min on Defrost setting 1 with my Micro Wave for my refrigerated fruit!

Yep, well many other people have a similar past. But I don't know a
single Thai (for example) that warms their fruit though. Most normal
people would simply take the fruit out of the fridge in advance if
this is a problem for them.

I prefer mangoes not too cold, as they lose some smell and taste when
cold... but not once has it bothered me to the point where I thought
about artificially heating mangoes.
