But then I read 'KRAFT macaroni and cheese': "Enriched Macaroni Product (Wheat Flour, Glyceryl Monostearate, Niacin, Ferrous Sulfate [Iron], Thiamin Mononitrate [Vitamin B1], Riboflavin [Vitamin B2], Folic Acid), Cheese Sauce Mix (Whey, Corn Syrup Solids, Palm Oil, Milk, Milkfat, Milk Protein Concentrate, Salt, Contains Less than 2% of Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Medium Chain Triglycerides, Maltodextrin, Dried Buttermilk, Sodium Phosphate, Citric Acid, Guar Gum, High Acid Whey, Cream, Lactic Acid, Calcium Phosphate, Cheese Culture, Skim Milk, Modified Food Starch, Yellow 5, Natural Flavor, Yellow 6, Enzymes, Annatto [Color], Artificial Flavor), Modified Food Starch, Potassium Chloride, Maltodextrin, Salt, Acetylated Monoglycerides, Medium Chain Triglycerides, Natural Flavor, Apocarotenal (Color)." This should be on the list of banned substances. |

Actually Bruce, there is nothing whatsoever unhealthful in those ingredients. I know what every one of them are (I'm a nerd like that). I have to make that crap for my son every so often. My wife eats it then, but I don't. It doesn't taste good. --Bryan https://www.lulu.com/en/us/shop/brya...-176j5weg.html |

It's a science project. In 50 years, they'll finally realise what some of those ingredients do to the body. Roundup was always safe too. |

When I asked him for a free account for old times sake he deleted the whole account <snork>. The whole company lost their jobs (120) when he took over, and the company went <poof!> after 14 years of very successful business. Anyway - it's a lame flickr page. I don't think they look all that bad, and you took them all out of context. Different people have different tastes - we can't all be food snobs who think Del Taco and canned chili is goremay food. -sw |

Ingredients lists are B O > R I N G. Sheldon, at least once, said that both Bruce and Bryan were *** (he may have written faggot) names, as if when parents choose your name, they also assign you a sexual orientation. I've been reading ingredient lists for a long time, and yeah, it's nerdy, but there used to be bad stuff in food. There's really not anymore to much of an extent. The stuff I was avoiding has been largely removed, especially trans-fats. I've been here long enough that some other old timers told me that I was ridiculous, and that trans-fats weren't a big deal. They actually were, and have now been removed from almost all foods. Funny, but now I'm reassuring other folks who see long lists of ingredients on processed foods that most/all of the ingredients are quite safe. I only prefer less processed foods because they tend to be less aesthetically pleasing. You look at the ingredients on most ice creams, and you will find gums and mono and diglycerides, none of which are unhealthful. You look at the ingredients on a carton of Haagen-Dazs vanilla, or ALDI's Specially Selected vanilla ice cream, and there's none of that stuff. It is cheaper, from a manufacturing standpoint, to use gums and mono and diglycerides, but the product is inferior in taste and mouthfeel. I sense that no one here is in poverty, and while some of us--myself included--love getting bargains, we can all afford to eat well. Good cooking is about good techniques, but also about good ingredients. --Bryan https://www.lulu.com/en/us/shop/brya...-176j5weg.html > > Jill --Bryan https://www.lulu.com/en/us/shop/brya...-176j5weg.html |

Good cooking is about good techniques, but also about good ingredients. Good ingredients, indeed. Which is why we should avoid prefab foods that are science projects. It's aesthetically crap and science is always behind. Again I say: Roundup was once considered safe by "science". |

Del Taco's cheap bean&cheese burritos are great, and Chilli Man canned chili with beans is a pretty good prepared food with the addition of some ground beef. You previously praised that Rico's cheese sauce, even back when it was chock full of trans-fats. > > -sw --Bryan https://www.lulu.com/en/us/shop/brya...-176j5weg.html |

Then Chris McCaskill bought it from Yahoo and promised everyone, "Nothing will change!" (over and over again he promised the public and his newly acquired employees, too). So I sent "support requests" to the "flickr.com" staff (former Yahoo! team) who still worked there telling them he's lying through his teeth! And what he did with the last company he bought. I told them it would be wise to start looking for a new job (several times). Sure enough, 25 out of the 30 people got layed off a month later. Two weeks after he laid me off (10 years prior) he had hire me back for 3 weeks at quadruple my previous salary. Plus 3 months of COBRA and moving expenses back to California - about $3K. Yeah, I was not his favorite layoff. It was the best schadenfreude in my lifetime (so far). He was told not to lay me off, but... Anyway - Tuna salad with anchovy stuffed olives was by 10:PM dinner. > Del Taco's cheap bean&cheese burritos are great, and Chilli Man > canned chili with beans is a pretty good prepared food with the > addition of some ground beef. It was always whey, liquid soybean and corn oils, cheese, starch, and emulsifiers. And I wasn't the one being a food snob :-P -sw |

And I wasn't the one > being a food snob :-P Then why does their website say, "Ricos Queso Blanco Cheese Sauce, now Trans Fat FREE"? source-- https://ricos.com/brands/ricos/ricos...auce-category/ It's because it used to have trans-fat. Look at this screenshot of a Google search from a few minutes ago. Yeah, it's on Flickr. https://www.flickr.com/photos/155222...posted-public/ I am indeed the food snob, but I make serious efforts not to post things that are factually incorrect, like, "Rico's never had trans-fats." > > -sw --Bryan https://www.lulu.com/en/us/shop/brya...-176j5weg.html |
