Default Lunch today; the basic stuff I sometimes eat

Pork schnitzel. I buy the schnitzel already run through a tenderizer at my local deli. When it's time to cook it, I pound my meat more so that it gets thinner.
Then the usual breading and frying, 1/2 butter, 1/2 cooking oil. Served with chilled potato salad. Of course the soup was chicken soup with rivels. I make the rivels with a stiff type dough, and then grate it on the large holes of the box grater. It's very time consuming, but I love those things in a broth. Vanilla ice cream for dessert.

Sounds like a good meal, be it lunch or dinner. Anything special in the
breading?

Nothing special. No panko. But some lemon juice in the egg wash. I didn't season the flour, but seasoned the meat with a bit of lemon pepper, and a small amount of garlic powder.

That sounds good, but not basic.

My "basic" lunch is quesadilla: melt cheese on a flour tortilla, top
with salsa and shredded lettuce.

Or defrost some soup that I made and put by.

Everyone's idea of "basic" is different. I have my "basic" Standard Meal, etc, my Indian housemates all have their particular thinks they like to cook and eat. One of my Indian housemates was cooking a LB or so of shrimps in water and some spices a day or so ago. I jokingly asked him if he was making very weak shrimp soup! ;-)

You seem very hung up on names which are entirely a human creation thus have no objective standard. Please stop trying to insistently instantiate them as you sound like the Word Nazi!

Have you never made a shrimp boil before? That's the way
to do it. Better than steamed.

My favorite:
- small pot, bring to a boil 1/3 cup water, 1/3 cup vinegar
a little bit of salt and lots of Old Bay Seasoning

- once the water starts to boil, add in 1 lb shrimp.
And put a lid on it. Using a small pot, some will be
in the water and most will be above it and getting steamed.

- each minute, stir it up and put the lid back on.

- only takes a few minutes - maybe about 5 depending on size.

Once done, drain the water off and eat some very tasty
spiced shrimp, half boiled and half steamed.

Oh heavens yes! *I* knew what he was cooking! And I was admiring his choice of animal protein, and I related to him how fried shrimp was my new fave restaurant food as a kid under 10, and how I discovered it at the Chinese restaurant my parents used to occasionally go to. YUMMY!!! :-)
