Bread, a piece of strong cheddar and a couple of pickled onions, with a pint of beer, is a simple and classic combination. |

A ploughman's lunch was typically a filled pastry but could consist of anything that's easily carried by workmen and needs no refrigeration... a k'nish qualifies. |

Hard boiled eggs would have been part of it if the chickens were laying enough. Cured sausage might have been in there or a cured bit of salt pork. |
