OB Food: I'm going to make salisbury steaks (from scratch) using ground chuck patties, hand formed, seasoned with salt & pepper and cooked in a skillet on both sides with minced onions and garlic until the veggies are tender and translucent. Drain off most of the fat. Add some beef broth or stock and if necessary a bit of water. A couple of splashes of Worcestershire sauce is crucial. Cover and let it simmer on low heat until the the liquid cooks down. Make a cornstarch slurry to thicken the gravy. I'll serve this mashed potatoes and <gasp> *steamed* short cut green beans. Dinner will be delicious, I can assure you. ![]() Jill |

It does lower your fuel mileage but the ethanol also suppressed engine knock which allowed me to use one grade lower of gasoline. I didn't notice my engines running rougher. Perhaps you had a potato stuck up your tailpipe. |

Not where I live... says so on the pump... my vehical runs smoother and I get 3 more miles per gallon with premium. Premium costs about 40¢ more a gallon but I think it's worth it, especially for a smoother running engine. The owner's manual for my vehical says to use regular but my vehical is a 1990, there was no ethanol back then. My mechanic clued me in, he said no gas engine should be run with ethanol, not even a lawnmower. He was right, I now use premium in my push mower and it runs much better. I use premium in my 2 cycle engines too and they run better and are much easier to start. Ethonal is most definitely a gimmick that will cost you major maintenance costs and having to replace prematurely, |

They put their ubiquitous 2.0L turbo engines in most of their cars but I'm glad to be rid of that troublesome mill. |

I get about 22 mpg in town, but I just never go anywhere...I drive about 2000 miles a year. The farthest I have gone in one trip in the past 3 years is 35 miles, one way. LOL. N. |

Anyway, I'll take your 2000 per year and raise you my annual mileage. Try 150 miles in the last 6 months. I should probably get rid of this thing. Cost per mile is a joke but convenience of having a vehicle on hand is priceless. |

I'll give ya that!! :-) I used to bicycle, a LOT! I used to live an easy flat bicycle ride to Forest Park both from the CWE and Skinker/Debaliviere, super easy! Door to door from Westminster in the CWE was 10.25 miles, cause I had a bike computer so I knew. John Kuthe, Climate Activist and Former Bicyclist. |

You could charge your van for free in his garage! Except you'd have to move to St. Louis and live somewhere near (hopefully not in with!) John. Like you, I'd have to pass on his electric car suggestion. Gotta ask him why he thinks there are electric car chargers all over the place. Do you see many in or around where you live? I sure as hell don't see any in the Beaufort, SC area. If my car runs out of gasoline, it's readily available. My auto insurance includes emergency roadside assistance so they'll bring me a few gallons of gas or tow it if there's another problem. An electric car that runs out of juice when I'm out shopping or parked for a few hours at work? If it was dead there'd be no way of charging it. Not buying the electric car idea. Jill |

I had a Toyota Matrix up until 2004, and there were days when it was impossible to get out of my driveway without stopping to shovel snow. I'm not talking a foot; it was a few inches (which up here is nuthin'). Cindy Hamilton |

The snow at the entrance to my driveway was frequently too deep. the Matrix bottomed out on it and the tires didn't meet the pavement. It's uphill from my driveway to the street. Since 2004 I've had a Honda CRV and then a Toyota Highlander. Both had enough oomph to get through the snow to the street. Cindy Hamilton |

Lol, Gary, no I meant that driving 35 miles one way (thus, 70 miles round trip) was as far as I ever
drove on a so-called trip. I guess it didn't make much sense. Sorry, my bad. ;-)) N. |

Sorry, my bad. ;-)) heheh I was sure that's what you meant. Just playing. However, it WAS a 70 mile trip, not a 35 miler. It's all good though. I'm thinking about calling my insurance company and talking a deal with them. You know...if you fly somewhere and rent a car for say 3 days, you can just use your own insurance for that or you can pay a bit extra and they will sell you their 3-days insurance. Naturally they won't want to sell me 3-4 days a month insurance. Like each week only insure me for Wednesdays. I could easily just drive on Wednesdays. If they refuse, I can cancel them and they won't get any money from me ever again. DMV might require 24/7 insurance though and probably. It's worth checking into. |

Gary, DMV rules are generally only for liability insurance...I'm sure you know that. Well,
unless you can prove fiscal ability to pay any claim. Have you checked with Liberty? Their new "Limu Emu" commercials brag about individually tailored auto policies. (Although your Wednesday-only stipulation might stretch their willingness.) N. |

Yeah...I was only "playing" with that idea. Insurance companies are "big business" and they wouldn't go along with it. Besides, the past 6 months were a rare time to drive so little. I'll probably *UP* the mileage in the next 6 months. I went ahead and paid for it, no questions asked. It's not that much anyway, just a per mile expense was up there (including gas and minor repairs). |
