Every job is like that. If I don't please my employer, I'm out of a job.

He tries to make it sound as if I want them to be ingratiating which
is far from true. At my local pub which is my lunchtime favourite
because of the excellent fish and chips and also the chowder, I pretty
much know all the girls now, it's not about me but them, how their
studies are going, whether they have exams coming in the next few
weeks etc. I see nothing wrong with friendliness and a big smile.

You're on intimate terms with all the server's bosoms... or their
female servers are like six years old (girls)?

That's no comparison. I bet you get a decent base salary.

She probably had to work her way up to get that decent base salary.

People should be able to make a living on a fulltime job.

Of course they should. But if they have no schooling/training or have opted
for a liberal arts degree don't expect to start at $25 an hour job that
they have absolutely no qualifications for. This has been discussed here
more than once; people getting useless degrees and then wonder why they're
not making $100,000 a year when they apply for a job they have no clue how
to perform.

Yep, people expect to start out at the top these days whether or not they
are qualified.

I agree, but what is a living? Federal minimum wage here is low even
for a school kid afternoon job.
So, on a living wage, how should one be able to live? One bedroom
apartment or a 3000 sq. ft. house?

Also helps to pay attention in school to get one of the better paying
jobs.

If it's a modest fulltime job, you should be able to live a modest
live off it. They still put in 40 hours a week.
