Uh, because that's what they are. I've used both and my convection toaster ovens have all been the better, more versatile product. -sw |

Anybody who praises their toy air fryer has never had a half-way decent convection toaster oven. https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-air-fryer/ -sw |

I've looked over airfryers as suitable here because of the small footprint and light weight so I can store it easily when not in use. It doesnt matter if a convection oven can do better. My needs are simpler and rather pointed to small batch needs. So for those who have one and use it, what model would you recommend if the total volume normally would be about 1 cup or tater tots and such? |

I appreciate your detailed other answer, but considering the fact MY cheap convection toaster oven cost less than a small air fryer, difficult to believe the air fryer does not do a better job. It might depend on whether a cheap air fryer gets to higher temperatures more easily or whether its convection is much better. I will search the cheap air fryer reviews for (fries, tater tots). I think fries is what they show in the product for sale pictures. Something else to look for is ease of cleaning, like the toaster oven and the microwave. |

So you automatically assume that what costs more, works better? Consider which one pays more for advertising, which one is made out of mostly plastic, and which is made of mostly metal. Also ask yourself why an air fryer would cost more considering the construction of both the toaster oven and the air fryer (like why do most toaster oven have four elements, while the air fryer only has one). If you have an air fryer that's so great at what it does, why aren't you using it for fries and tots in the first place?!?! -sw |

I too am feature driven. I won't say 'more costly means better' but you are going about it with the right questions for your needs. It could be simple cleanup factors make them a little more. |
