It's even getting chilly way down south! It's only supposed to hit 62F
today. I love this time of year, cool, crisp and no humidity. Just
last week it was still in the 80's and very humid after a couple of days
of rain; I had to turn the AC back on.

I love loaded potato soup. I use russet "baking" potatoes, though, not
red ones. I usually plan ahead so that I'm having, say, steak and a
baked potato the night before. Bake extra potatoes and use them to make
the soup.

We got a nice big pack of ground beef to make a meatloaf. I always think
of it as cold weather comfort food. It is under 40F here now, and it's
damp and windy. It's not a lot of fun, and we know it is going to get
worse before it gets better.

Used to buy this magazine now and then.

The loaded potato soup looks superb.

The french onion lacks sherry - a key failing.

Clam chowda' w/out new red taters? No thanks.

Cheicken verde, yes but hatch chiles please!

Beef and Guiness - OK, that hooked me!

I went to the Club on Friday night to pick up an order of fish & chips.
I heard a couple of guys at the end of the bar complaining about how hot
it gets here. Surprise! It's southern South Carolina! What on earth
did you expect?

I heard one guy say he's lived here 4 months, he's from New Jersey. The
other guy has been here for a year, off and on from somewhere in New
York. They were complaining about the heat. I didn't say anything but
I was thinking to myself "At least you won't have to deal with snow."
Shoveling, blowing, sanding, salt & ashes. Corrosion under your car.
Snow tires. Trying to get to the grocery store on icy roads. You moved
here for a reason. Golf. Don't know why you wouldn't expect it to be
hot down here.

I haven't made meatloaf in a number of years. I really should do it again.

We have a moderate climate here in southern Ontario. Winters are not
extremely cold. It very rarely gets down to 0 F. Most of the winter
bounces around the freezing point. I think I prefer to put on a sweater
and to wear gloves than to have high heat and humidity and to spend half
the year running from one air conditioned building or car to another.

Good meatloaf is a treat. It is one of the few things that I actually
enjoy leftovers of.

That is hot, not that bad right now where I am in the San Joaquin Valley,
but it does get that hot and stay that way for days on end. A few days ago
it was close to 90 for a few days which I hate in October, but cooler the
last couple of days.
