Ferrets are also illegal in California. Many still have them
secretly though.

Why are they illegal?

They think that if irresponsible people release them in the wild that they
are dangerous to fish and wildlife. That has happened in some cases with
some species, but I don't see it. The same could be said for many animals
that aren't illegal.

In Australia rabbits are an introduced species and reproduced, well, like rabbits and became a real problem! I had an Australian tee shirt on with a little bunny with 'x's in it's eyes (cartoon death)!

there are some extra pythons in Florida that could be relocated -- they'll
take care of any unwanted creatures, even small farmers

In the python world, eating a small farmer would be akin to killing a cop i.e., not a smart move.

You better believe it. The most loving creatures I've ever known.
I guess it depends on how you raise/love them though.

Here's an old favorite -

Mia lives on here still as she's not forgotten.

Sadly, there will always be irresponsible pet owners. Ferrets have been
domesticated, just like cats. But, like cats, they are also hunters.
So when released in the wild they revert back to using those teeth and
claws to bring down prey.

Weren't ferrets used as ratters on ships? Cats, too. Sugar gliders,
nope. LOL

No wild ferrets now except for the "black foot" relatives.
Release your pet ferret into the wild now and it will die
in a short time. They've been domesticated for too long.

Yeah...and those evil owners literally starved the ferrets to
near death so they would do that.

Afraid that if people let them loose they might kill off the local
wildlife. In real life our ferrets are totally domesticated and in the
US sterilized from birth. Let your ferrets go in the wild and they would
die within a week or so.

When Governor ARNOLD was running for the office, he promised to legalize
ferrets in the state. After he won, he changed his mind. Jackass. And
funny....ever watch the movie "Kindergarten Cop" starring him? In that
movie he owned a pet ferret.
