He just has a dry sense of humor that appeals to me. I don't need slap-stick or toxic humor. He was trying to give instruction that would stick with the viewer because of the visuals and word play. I like Alton Brown and watched most of his Good Eats. I only didn't like the bits where he had people dress up and horse around, to explain a chemical process for instance. Those bits made me think the program was for 8 year olds. But I liked his thorough, sligthly nerdy approach. |

He does interesting dishes and he has those fun little things to demonstrate the process that is going on as the stuff cooks. He is just too damned precise. I liked James Barber, the Urban Gourmet, the antithesis of Alton Brown. He didn't measure accurately, he could get pretty sloppy, but he had interesting dishes and made it fun. |

Everything's explained and measured and investigated. There's no prior knowledge required. That makes it repeatable for newbie chefs and gives him a large audience. I like that. |

He wanted to improve them with more educational and humorous content. He even apprenticed to a real chef fer two yrs and admitted that chef sometimes made him cry. Personally, I like AB. Even if he now hosts some pretty lame shows (Iron Chef: America, etc). I learned to bake a pie crusts from AB. Unfortunately, it was an AB recipe fer pan seared ribeye that laid me low: <http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/pan-seared-rib-eye-recipe.html/> Not his fault. I was jes careless. 8| nb |

I have cooked a lot of recipes from the FN website, but had trouble remembering if I've cooked any of his, so I searched. I have two that are in my recipe folder in the computer and haven't made either one. I've saved another couple of dozen to Pinterest, but the closest I've come to following a recipe was to use the all spice ingredient (the secret flavor that's always missing) for Swedish meatballs and I threw a steak on wood coals once when caveman style steaks were so popular last year. -- Avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them. |

One of these days I have to call and change my satellite bundles. There isn't much worth watching on the Food Network. Gusto has much more interesting cooking shows. They look like real cooking shows, like the type that used to be on Food Network, rather than the overwhelming number of reality show contests they have now. |
