Default Quiche -- its what's for dinner

Made this the other night. Bacon, cheese, green beans right from the
garden. Pie crust was a store bought, just unrolled.

Ooh that looks good. Really moist too!

Dinner today = Lambs liver with onions and bacon, with mashed potato, cavolo
nero and green beans, both from the garden. Fruit crumble made with apples
and blackberries from the garden with ice cream!

Henceforth I shall refer to it as Black Kale) It is a favourite of my
husband and I always grow plenty of it) I think Cavolo Nero is Italian?
That is what it is called on the seed packs so I make sure to get that to
differentiate it from other kales.

Looks good... never thought of doing a quiche with green beans... I'll
assume you steaned them some first.

I was going to but tossed them into the bacon fat since it was hot in

I have never seen red kale, but I see Cavolo Nero quite often. It's
also marketed as Dinosaur Kale, and Tuscan kale here.

It's not really black, it's a dark green that verges on black in
places. What makes it different is the leaf. The edges are not
curly.

I wonder why it's not as readily for sale as green or red kale.

=============

I do see it in our supermarkets but they are very large older leaves. I
pick them much smaller and younger and that is what he is used to.

Having said that, I have only seen them recently in the stores. I bought
some and he didn't like them. He had got used to the smaller ones

I can imagine, they must be much more tender. And old supermarket
vegetables don't compare to home grown

I think everyone prefers younger leaves of plants (that can be bitter
when mature) if they can find them. I can even buy baby arugula in
bags at the store.

I don't like quiches that are too 'eggy', if that makes sense.
