Since my preferred text editor is vi, I'm accustomed to hitting the return key about every 80 characters, rather than letting it wrap in the user interface. GG is a crappy interface for those who are used to the computer doing everything for them. It's not so bad for us control freaks. Cindy Hamilton |

That should mean I can stick to most of my usual programmes. |

Shouldn't he be busy chatting up people on Facebook, >Instagram, etc.? ![]() As far as I am concerned, Usenet was perfected virtually from the start. Low bandwidth, efficient and does the job. Why mess with it? If somebody thinks it needs 'modernising' then they obviously don't like Usenet and should use web based forums. I see a place for web based Usenet access, but there's no reason to make the actual posts non-compliant with Usenet protocols and standards like google does. The very same company mind you that PROMISED to maintain and preserve the Deja archive... and has subsequently mangled the archive beyond all repair. |

I'm pretty sure some of the major commercial Usenet servers also have web based access, which undoubtedly would be superior to GG. I would take a look at those were I forced to use the Web. Also, note the arrogance of Google who by implication made Usenet part of Google by calling Usenet 'Google Groups'. |

The reality is that Enterprises are going for cloud computing in a big way. Why spend the time and money building your own computer center? Why keep valuable data on-site? Why not rent these services instead? Why indeed. The reality is that for the first time, what the boomer generation says and thinks won't amount to a hill of beans. As far as generations goes, the boomers were a self-indulgent, self-centered, short-sighted, greedy lot. It's a great relief to get them out of the way to make room for the new gens who will hopefully make this world a better place. The boomer gen were pretty much a fail. |
