Default Himalayan Salt Plate

Woot Woot, happy happy, joy joy, another reason I enjoy shopping at
Grocery Outlet. Himalayan salt tapas plate, 8X4 and 1" thick. Can be
used hot or cold $2.99 each.

https://flic.kr/p/G78RpC

I love the smaller size, now I don't have to drag out the larger one
for smaller portions.

It's not something I have ever seen. What do you do with it?

As soon as I saw this thread, I knew I'd see your name here when I
opened it up. Stop talking absolute CRAP about Himalayan salt. You
think you're Richard Dawkins or something, but won't take the time to
inform or educate yourself about much at all, from what I can see.

Wow - $2.99 is great! Putting it on the list to look for, thanks! Do
you have a tab on your blog devoted to salt plate cooking, Koko? Do
you put your larger one on a cookie sheet or do you have one of the
holders they sell?

Here are a few things I've made using the large one I already have.
I also really like it for cooking shrimp on the stovetop

In my answer to Ophelia, I gave links to my blog showing a few of the
things I've cooked on the larger one I have.
I have a holder for my larger one, but not the smaller ones. I need to
check and see how the smaller ones would work somehow with the holder.

So you can explain his usual comments on Himalayan salt then?
Or how fracking is apparently a great idea. And I didn't suggest he
was a dummy, more that he lets personal biases influence his opinions
rather than raw facts, sometimes.

All that looks good, but then everything you do looks good Does the salt
transfer to the food? If so, does it not make it overly salty?

It's true that all of koko's food looks great, but I wonder koko is there
really such a difference in the taste with it than just roasting something
like salted asparagus on a roasting pan? What I mean, since I've never
cooked on a salt plate. is it more of a novelty type thing than a real
difference? Curious.

No, it doesn't impart much salt at all.

Here's a quote from the website I cited above.

"Their lack of porosity means that the surface area touches your food
is minimal. Compared to, say, ground up salt or naturally evaporated
salt crystals, these large blocks of salt will impart only a very
moderate saltiness. Second, the high quantity of trace minerals (1.2%
sulfur, .4% calcium, .35% potassium, .16% magnesium, and 80 other
trace minerals) impart a more mild and full taste to the salt,
providing another level of flavor complexity to your food"

Thank you both for your compliments. That's very nice.

I taste the difference Cheri, that's why it's not a novelty thing for
me but a cooking method I"ve been using for years.
I think it's not so much the salt, but the minerals that accounts for
the differences too.
