Barny weighs 22 pounds, he's exceptionally strong and super fast, he's
like a small mountain lion, no dog will survive. I like dogs but I
don't like having to walk dogs, cats are not at all into being
walked... they may agree to walk you but don't even think about
walking cats. Even though he's become a house cat Barny is still
somewhat feral, I'm positive he'd eliminate any dog in short order.
The difference in strength and speed between a house cat and a feral
barn cat is amazing. Feral cats work in finely tuned teams, no dog
would last 30 seconds before becoming dinner.

(snippage)

I saw someone yesterday "walking" her dog except she wasn't actually
walking it. The dog was riding in something akin to a baby carriage.
(Things that make you go hmmmmm).

There are some neighbors a few houses down, their house is about the
same size as mine. They own two huge Great Danes. Yikes! Those are
some big dogs. There's no place for them to run or even really to walk
them around. I feel sorry for those dogs.

Cats are pretty much self-sufficient. All you need to do is provide
food & water, a litterbox and a comfy place to snooze.

I got lucky when I adopted my cat Buffy. She's got a very sweet
disposition and she likes to snuggle. She has a big time batting a golf
ball around the living room. Good thing I live on a golf course!

Dogs schtink... wet dogs smell awful... only dogs that don't schtink
are poodles but they are pricey to keep groomed. Cats groom
themselves and the emit no odor whatsoever, that's just one reason
they are great hunters.

I love your cat, but my doggies are just as cool!

It's only a problem for those that have an allergy
to cats. For the rest of us it poses no problem.

Most people are not allergic to cats... most people I know have cats,
most have several. And I've discovered that some have the Julie Bove
syndrome with cats, when they don't like something they claim an
allergy. I like dogs, I've had dogs, but I don't like their high
maintainence. A fifty pound dog is like feeding two teenage boys, but
even the cost wouldn't bother me, it's having to walk dogs I don't
want to do. I can leave my cats home alone for a day, two days, even
a week and when I come home everything would be the same as I left
it... all I'd need do is put out a couple of extra litter pans, set
out a couple more gravity dispensing dried food feeders, and put out a
few more large water bowls... they wouldn't even miss me, they have
each other for company and mostly they sleep. Leave one dog home for
just 24 hours it'd be best to pay the local realtor a visit before
going home, to buy a new house. People are alway sasking me why I
don't have dogs. they say with all the space here I could leave them
outside, WRONG! A dog wouldn't last 12 hours outside here, I never
see a stray dog, they quickly become preditor dinner. However the
feral cats do fine outdoors... and right now they are eating
practically no cat food, they are fattening up for winter by hunting,
they much prefer the live food and there's plenty here... I've been
finding lots of squirrel and chipmonk feet on my deck each morning,
they eat all but the feet. Like I said, I like dogs but I really
wouldn't have the time to allocate caring for a dog.

No one said "most".

That would be an anecdotal sample set.

Real allergies are no joke however:

http://www.livescience.com/36578-cat...gies-pets.html

If you have pet allergies, chances are it is Fluffy rather than Fido
that's making you sneeze. While an estimated 10 percent of people are
allergic to household pets, cat allergies are twice as common as dog
allergies, according to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and
Immunology.

Among children, about one in seven between ages 6 and 19 prove to be
allergic to cats.

Contrary to popular belief, it's not cat fur that causes those itchy,
watery eyes. Most people with cat allergies react to a protein found on
cat skin called Fel d 1.

Agreed.

With all that land you wouldn't have to, plenty of pasture to run.

Lucky you, ours used to unroll the toilet paper rolls as a 'reminder'
not to be gone too long.

Cute, but messy.

True.

Separation anxiety, yes.

I suspect that would not happen if you had a Newfie or Bernese mountain dog.

Best not be poaching songbirds.

And I know you feed, so...

Baloney! Any good hunting dog would terrorize your feral cat colony.
You've tamed them too much. Dog would also chase off dear, bears,
geese, and ducks.

Feral cats are NOT mountain lions, african lions, or a wolf pack. You
live in a fantasy world. Go mow your lawn.

What's a good hunting dog... a beagle, a dachshound... most hunting
dogs are rather small, those that actually hunt... the larger breeds
are used for pointing and retrieving and are rather slow, they don't
hunt, they assist humans with weapons.

>You've tamed them too much.

Feral cats are anything but tame, and what they do best is hunt...
feral cats are nothing like house cats... there's not much difference
between lynx, bobcats, and feral cats, only feral cats hunt as a group
while lynx and bobcats are more solitary, but all are equally
proficient hunters.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynx

>Dog would also chase off [deer] dear, bears, geese, and ducks.

Dogs won't chase off deer, bears, or geese... and if ducks are in
water dogs can't catch them, dogs can't catch ducks on land either...
you must have forgotten that ducks are excellent fliers, and some will
attack same as geese if a dog gets too close to their young. If deer,
bears, and geese are with young they will kill any dog that attempts
to threaten them or their young... a doe will bash a dog's head in
with one lick of a front hoof, happens often around here... a doe will
get between a human and its fawn and if need be will attack. A dog
will bark to chase deer off but if the dog persists and gets too close
the deer will turn and you'll see the dog turn tail and back off
whimpering... my next door neighbor's dog, Rocky, would bark like
crazy at the deer but the deer would only back off a few yards while
continuing to munch grass, if Rocky persisted and got closer one deer
always turned, stamped its hoofs and snorted, Rocky backed off
whimpering, I saw that scenario most every day. It was always comical
watching Rocky back off like a wuss... he was no match for a 200 pound
doe that could easily out manuever him, leap six feet straight up and
drop kick him on the way down... Rocky was too smart to push his luck
with deer, he was never let out alone and was well trained to never
cross his property line. Rocky was a large dog but is gone now:

>Feral cats are NOT mountain lions, african lions, or a wolf pack.

Now you're being silly, your argument is not even close to germane...
you may as well compare seals to orcas. But feral cat colonies do
indeed hunt in groups and each has a job, some will distract while
others will approach and suddenly attack from various directions...
when one leaps on the back of a dogs head and goes at its eyes and
nose the dog is a goner... haven't you ever seen how a cat will roll
onto it's back so it can slash at its opponents soft underbelly with
all four claws... if a dog doesn't find an escape within seconds its
guts will fall out and will become dinner. It's rare to see a stray
dog here and when seen it won't be seen again, more often than not
it'll be the feral cat colonies that take it down, especially in
winter when food is scarce. Now is whn the big city moroons abandon
the pets they acquired for summer, the cats will surive but the dogs
don't have any chance of lasting the first night. All cat's play is
actually practice for hunting, cats begin honing their hunting and
survival skills from kittens as soon as they're weaned, only house
cats don't get to employ those skills the way ferals do. Twenty pound
house cats are mostly fat, twenty pound ferals are all rippling
muscle, watching them move is like watching big cats in the wild.

Now you're correct, the northern Catskills is a gorgeous fantasy
world, and my lawn is aways fastideously mowed.

Ever see Border Collie run?

No they won't catch, they will herd into a tight corner though.

You're making crap up again.
