Default The Deli cashier

I had to pick up some stuff at the butcher/deli down the road from me.
While I was checking out I grabbed some bananas. The cashier looked a
little confused and then started counting them and said something about
them being 50 cents apiece. I looked at her puzzled and then told her
they are bananas. They are sold by the pound. Doh. A hand of 6 bananas
would have been $3.

LOL. Just goes to show that the cashier doesn't do their own shopping,
or cooking, probably.

They're not always sold that way here. Target sells them per piece.

Same here and many company cafeterias sell them by the
piece.

A deli would sell by the piece. They also sell cold cuts by the slice. You
probably cost that poor kid her job. Congrats.

By the slice? Never saw such a thing. You mean like ham is 12 cents a
slice, turkey is 10 cents?

You said they sell it by the slice. If they use a scale, they are
selling it by the pound. Learn the difference before you make snide
remarks.

Bananas are usually sold by the pound too, but some places will sell by
the individual piece. Like one banana for 75 cents versus 50 cents a
pound.

me: I will have 4 slices of the mortadella.

worker: Slices 4 cuts. Places it on the scale, dials the number for
mortadella. That will be 1.23 cents.

me: Thank you

For the record, I never once even considered sleeping with you. And
you know that. You're the one who somehow got the idea that I was
going to move in with you - and you posted that to RFC just out of the
total blue.

After having met you twice at casual austin.food gatherings 2 or 3
years ago and not giving you any indication that there was any sort of
romantic interest in the least, you somehow twisted that into MY
MOVING IN WITH YOU?

That was just way too Psycho for me. I sat there at stared at the
screen for at least 15 minutes wondering, WTF? That was just way too
spooky. I've met weird, semi-psycho women before but you win, hands
down. Mapi of austin.general still holds the male title, but at least
he announced his psychosis right there lying on the floor of the bar
at B.D. Reilly's rather than romantically obsessing over me for 2
years.

Needless to say, you need to come to terms with what happened and why
your mind works that way and stop making up excuses for your fixation
and disappointment before we become the next Yoli and Michael. I'd
prefer you use a sniper rifle on me from a few hundred yards away.
There you go - a reason for you to buy yet another gun and ammo.

And Jeremy, I was just tired of your decade of bullshit and visions of
grandeur about all these things you're "working on" or have not done
in the past. Even posting a call for meetings with imaginary people
about imaginary projects of yours at "the normal time and place", as
if you are somebody important with a life. I'm pretty sure you're
manic depressive mixed with habitual liar.

Sorry I don't fit either of your Ideal Psycho Pal Profiles.

No Einstein. She had looked up the price and counted them out. When I
said they were sold by the pound not by the piece she looked again and
weighed them. I shop at the store frequently and I often by bananas, and
they are always sold by the pound.

By bananas? How could she have looked up the per piece price if they were
not sold that way? Little hole in your story there, Mr. Keillor.

How about she looked it up and saw the 50 cents and assumed it was by
the pound, because when I questioned it and she looked it up she charged
by the pound, and at the same rare per pound that they usually are.

Only if sold by the piece, not if sold by weight. We still don't know
for sure. Someone had to go to the deli and check the price sign.

Actually, she apologized to me. When I told her the bananas are sold by
the pound there, she checked again and then weighed them. They are sold
by the pound there.

There are places were bananas as sold by the piece, and any I have seen
sell them singly, not in bunches.

What I found amazing is how many people sided with the clerk yet have
never been to the store and never saw how they were priced. I can see
selling by the piece at a lunch counter, but I've never seen it that
way in a grocery store.

TJ's sells them each, about $0.19.

The Wall Street veteran whose multi-million dollar mansion hosted the
first fundraiser for Jeb Bush’s newly created political action committee
held a top job at an insurance brokerage that was sued by the state of
Florida for swindling clients while Bush was governor.

Charles Davis was the vice chairman of Marsh and McLennan Companies
during much of the time that Florida officials accused the company of
taking kickbacks and rigging bids.

Now the Democrats who uncovered the company’s legal troubles are using
them to question Bush’s judgment at time when he’s beginning to look
more and more like a presidential candidate.

“Why would you ever go back to somebody who has ripped you off,” asked
Ben Ray, spokesman for the Democratic Super PAC American Bridge.

Wow... all the idiots are in agreement. Don't you feel even the least
bit embarrassed to be in agreement with Julie and the other resident idiot?
She checked... the were priced by the pound.

The going rate for bananas in Canada is about $.78/lb. Why would a
deli/butcher, who are NOT in the produce business and don't get bulk
produce discounts from distributors, carry them for $.28/less per
pound than the regular grocery stores?

It just doesn't add up, Davey.
