It was not "necessary" because we have several kinds of pans that do work but DH thought that the ones for Nuwave were interesting and we did not have any large pots that would work on it. Unfortunately my pretty complete set of Revere Ware does not work on it. But the induction cooker is not the only cooking surface in our kitchen. -- Susan N.
