Default Masterful Gil Marks exposition of the jelly doughnut

Next Wednesday, Lent begins. The day before is informally known as "Paczki
Day," for the Polish jelly doughnut eaten at that time.
Letting my googlefingers do the walking, I learned that the Polish
paczki became the Yiddish ponchiks, which are known in Israel under their
Hebrew name, sufganiyot.
