Default Blasted Phone App!

Added a new grocery list to Out of Milk and the darned phone app
wouldn't sync up with the computer for me. Finally deleted it and
reinstalled. 30 minutes down the drain, but at least all my lists are
sync'd and intact.

I prefer the good ol' ways. I love those 5X7 pads of white lined
paper. Those are for my lists. I still like real books vs electronic
books too. E-Books for me.

Insert NO in front of E-books. I like holding an actual book in my
hands.

I don't understand why a shopping list on a cell phone would *need* to
sync with the computer. She's not carrying the computer with her to the
store.

Some people find it easier to put things on the computer than to deal
with the tiny keyboards on phones. I have my Google calendar sync'd
between the phone and the computer. If I'm out and making an
appointment, I'll do it on the phone, but if I am calling from home, I
just put it on the desktop.

I use "OI Shopping List" App on my Android phone. It has the ability to
hold several lists for different stores or shopping expeditions.

If I make a paper list, half the time I forget to take it. I always
have my phone with me.

The phone goes with me to the store. I prefer using a larger
keyboard, especially when adding more than one item to a list, so that
means I use the computer. The tablet is often with me in the kitchen
because I'm using a recipe that is either from the internet or from
the recipe folder that's stored on my Google Drive.... which syncs
with my computer too. In fact, all three devices sync. Change
something on one and I've changed it on all of them. I like that!
Funny how non-techie me can understand syncing and the advantages it
has for me better than a lot of old farts here who claim to be more
technologically savvy than I am.

I sure don't claim to be more tech savvy. I simply find it easier to
write a list. I keep the list in a small spiral notebook which is in my
purse (and my purse is always where I can find it). I add to it when I
think of things I want to buy. No typing required. I don't have
electronic devices all over the house. What works for you works for
you, except when it doesn't. Paper and pen will always work.

I had no interest in a Kindle until my son gave me one for Christmas
about 3 years ago. I am now addicted to it. Almost everything I like
to read is available for a reasonable price. It is light. I started
looking for a Kindle version of a book that I like and thought I might
reread. Too heavy to hold, 1000+ pages. Haven't seen that book as an
E-Book yet.

My library also has E-Books available for loan.

I bought a Nook about a year ago. Useless. Can't surf the web with
it, yet it will reach the closest Barnes & Noble, 90 miles away.
Can't read library ebooks on it, cuz all the libraries use Adobe ADE
and Adobe refuses to make software for Linux. The worst part is, it's
too thin to use as a doorstop! Basically, a total waste of $80. 8|

I keep a running shopping list on my desk, I use the blank backs of
junk mail. Also just about every stupidmarket website has a function
where one can check off sale products on their weekly circular and
also products from an index of most every product in the store and
will form a list and let you print it.

I'm still using the backs of received Xmas cards. The clerk at least got a smile out of it the other day ( had 3 angels on it, plus some glitter.) Saving trees......and the frustration I KNOW I would encounter with something more sophisticated.

I used to prefer the 3 x 5 unlined pads. Cheap at dollar store.
Unfortunately, a year or so they evidently stopped making them - now only
3 x 5 lined spiral-bound pads. <sigh>

Go with the 5X8 white lined legal pads and be happy! Walmart sells
them for like $2-3 for a 6-pack of them (50 sheets per pad) and that
lasts a long time! :-)

I used adding machine tape before the app. That way, the paper was as
long as I needed to make a one column list. Fortunately, I learned
about Out of Milk as my very last roll of adding machine tape was
being coming to an end and I was gearing up to resort to Google or
Amazon for a refill.

Adding machine tape, huh? Hmmm. That's an interesting idea. I'll have to
think about that. Besides, I don't have a smart phone - just a very basic
cell I generally only use for 'emergency' outgoing calls.

Thanks for the tip.

I use a variety of paper. Whatever I find that is cute or cheap or both.
Or old mail or something I printed off but no longer need. If I am making a
long list that might change then I might use the computer.

Is that last part "No E-Books?" Anyway... yay!!!! I love physical
books, as my house can attest. I make lists. I increasingly get older
items because the new ones are such c--p.

You need an app to tell you that you're out of milk? I just look in the
fridge and estimate how long the current supply will last.

lol nooooo it is just the name of the app) I use it too but I use it
directly from the phone ie I don't log into any place or have to sync it to
my computer.

If you don't take advantage of the syncing, you don't need the app.
Just use the Note/text app that came preinstalled with your phone.

Thank you, but I will use whatever app I wish. I wasn't aware I needed your
permission.

It's more pure amazement than anything else. From what I understand
from past conversations, you even have the Pro version.

I, too, use the app but never sync it. My phone is always, always with me
so no need to access my lists elsewhere. I also still use paper lists on
occasion for bigger shopping trips only because it's faster to write them
out than type them when I have a gazillion things to get. I like using the
app more so than the built in list feature on my phone.

But with your phone you can have it do the math for you.
Enter the container size
Enter the milk level
Enter the daily consumption
or
Enter the number of people in the household
Enter their ages
Do you drink milk in your coffee?
Eat cereal?
Enter today's date
Tap "FINISH"
Read the day you will need milk.

See, simple and far more accurate.

Not if someone decides to make custard. That can throw the whole
thing off. Or a second bowl of cereal.

They sync their grocery list with the person who is out doing the
grocery shopping. What's so hard to understand about that concept?

....and jes think of all those great little pop-ups you'll delight in
responding to:

Are you sure you want to save this file?

Are you sure you want to delete this file?

Are you sure you want to file this file?

It's all great fun and makes you feel like all this activity actually
justifies the insane amts of money you've tossed on this junk.
