Fireplace roaring for last 12 hours but the heat is cutting in anyways
as you'd expect. Wind chill now about 15F. Dropping to -5F over the night. Houses this far south are not built for this. I hve to go back a decade to recall weather in the teens here and I do not recall the wind chill ever being below 10F. Want stupid? South of us they are delaying school 1 hour so it's a bit warmer and light out. Here where it is colder, no call at all on it. Making last of the Ham up into a hambone soup in the crockpot.. carol -- |

Here in CT it is about 12 right now and -4 in the AM. Winf chell expected to be -30F. > Want stupid? South of us they are delaying school 1 hour so it's a bit > warmer and light out. Here where it is colder, no call at all on it. Delay here is 90 minutes. I imagine the bus companies will have problems getting some of them started. My car will be warm as I have a remote starter and he seat heater is in the "on" position. At work I can park inside where it is about 45 degrees. > > Making last of the Ham up into a hambone soup in the crockpot.. > Ours is in the freezer and will be soup next week. |

Here in SE Texas it got down to 27 (wind chill of 23) and some people think it is Armageddon. This morning, someone (I won't mention names) told me that she wasn't leaving the house until March. About a decade ago they redid the equation for wind chill. The new numbers aren't as extreme as the old ones were. For a given real temp and windspeed the new windchill is higher now than it used to be. Which makes your current situation even more extreme. just remember: hot out = global warming cold out = global warming bad storm = global warming no storms = global warming arctic ice melting = global warming most arctic ice on record = global warming. |

I might turn the heat on later if the temp. doesn't warm up like they said it would. Normally I would be in bed now but a little GERD attack drove me up and in search of the Gaviscon. Back to bed with me as soon as that kicks in. The weird thing was the fog here. We encountered it in Woodinville but it eventually reached here around 11:00 p.m. when we were hauling the cans to the street. So wet that you could feel it in the air! That's just highly unusual for it to be that dense and thick or even to be here at all this time of year. Normally we do get a little in the spring. But not now. |

Hey Shel, kinda dangerous, no? I knew a very elderly man who 'ran out for his paper' in 16 degree weather, fell onto the snow and if it hadn't been for a passing neighbor..........just a word to the wise. Hey Shel, kinda dangerous, no? I knew a very elderly man who 'ran out for his paper' in 16 degree weather, fell onto the snow and if it hadn't been for a passing neighbor..........just a word to the wise. And he didn't live out in the sticks, either. Is anyone checking on YOU? --- I once got stuck in the snow in NY and I was dressed properly. I had gone out to drive my daughter down to the bus stop. But there was so much ice out there, I couldn't walk on it to get to my car. I may have just kept her home that day. I can't remember now. Another time when it was like that, my husband drove her down there. We were living in military housing at the time and they were usually very good at plowing the streets but on occasion the thick ice would set in by morning before they could get out and do something about it. At any rate, no neighbors were home. No one within earshot anyway. Not that they really could have done much to help me. They had either gone to the bus (not sure how they got down there) or left for work. I realized that trying to walk on the sidewalk was futile. There was so much ice that I kept slipping. So I thought I would cut through the grass, go up along the edge of the bushes and get to my door that way. But the snow was so deep that I somehow lost my way in attempting to walk in it and instead of heading towards my door, I was going more towards the building next door. And then I just sort of fell. The ground was rather hilly there and my feet just slipped out from under me and I fell down in the very deep snow. From there it was just plain horrible. Once I get down on the ground or the floor I have a heck of a time getting back up without something to grab onto. And there wasn't much to grab onto out in that huge yard. I just kept making failed attempts, flailing around and freezing, sort of crawling through it all, getting snow in my eyes and nose until I finally bumped into the trunk of this skinny little tree. I managed to pull myself up but I was so exhausted by then and due to my fibromyalgia, my muscles had locked up on me. I began crying then, tears freezing to my face. Obviously I did get back inside although now I can't really remember how. But now? When it snows, I just stay inside. |

A few years ago it was -31 here, -25 the nite before, the 2 coldest night I've ever seen. When I was at WVU it got down to -15 1 nite but the next day it only got up to -10, -10 is super cold for a high.
