He is now a published author and for that, not the content of the book,
he deserves kudos.

Actually, anyone can be a published author these days. Many make a good
living off it on the internet and that's a good thing for them.

I'm sure he was stroking something when he wrote it. Typing one-handed
no doubt induced all the commas.

Jill McQuown imagines me masturbating. You have joined Sheldon in the "Thinks

Hey, I got to thinking, and one of two things is almost certainly true:

1. Jill McQuown's masturbation to partner sex ratio is WAY higher than my own,

OR

2. Jill McQuown experiences few, if any, orgasms.

Gee, was setting off, "if any," with commas overuse? Is Jill's relationship
with her nether regions under-use? Should I have used a comma after the word,
"regions"? Should I have put the "?" inside the quotes in the previous sentence?
Should Jill STFU about Bryan's sexuality?

I guess that depends on whether she minds Bryan calling attention to her own
situation. Should I have written about myself in the third person? Should I,
Bryan, tell Jill to, "Get ****ed"? What if I were suggesting it because I
thought that it might make her happier if she did get ****ed? Should I have shifted from third to first person within a single paragraph? Perhaps Bryan
really does pity Jill's lack of "you-know-what," and really does wish that she
got more of it. Ooops, that was second person, wasn't it, and should I have taken the artistic liberty to spell, "Ooops," with three Os? Oops, I did it
again.

Probably with a glove puppet of some sort, ordinary masturbation
wouldn't be perverted enough for him.

Ordinary masturbation is lovely, and I don't even know what a "glove puppet" is.
FYI, I never once masturbated while writing, but if I had, I wouldn't be ashamed
to admit it. I did cry a lot, and I'm not embarrassed about that. Any of you
folks who think that is possible to shame me over my sexuality are really dense.

Full, rich sex lives most often include masturbation. I'm a Betty Dodson
fan. In fact, she wrote a blurb for Winter's Present. I just haven't
figured out where to put blurbs. I admit my deficits, and one of them is
not being very good with computer technology.

"[Winter's sex words] rant was brilliant...If only more men (and women) thought like this our sex lives would be greatly improved."
--Betty Dodson, renowned sex educator and author of Sex for One and Orgasms for Two.

Notice, icky little man who plays with sock puppets, that Betty wrote an
entire book about self sex. ALL consensual sex is good sex.

That said, I did not masturbate while writing the book. I laughed a lot (at
my own jokes), I cried a lot, and on occasion, I drank ****loads of beer, all
of which I find incompatible with masturbation.

How do YOU know so much about those places? : ))

How's the grammar, sentence construction --basic stuff like that. I am sure it's no Steinbeck-move-over work, but would you read it if stuck, say, on an elevator for hours?

I have been editing manuscripts for a local publisher these past 6
months and I firmly believe that there are many authors who did not show
up for comma and apostrophe lessons in English class.

Correcting commas and apostrophes is about 90% of my editing.

A friend is just going through the ms of his 2nd book after the copy
editor has done her job. She changed all the slang in conversations into
proper English!

Some characters would not speak the Queen's English. A copy editor who
made those changes was more than "copy" editing. I have a fool for a
copy editor.

She's not a good editor. It is verboten to interfere with an author's
style. I rarely touch a sentence unless it's so poor the the reader
won't be able to follow it. Then I will restructure the sentence,
keeping all the elements that work, to create a cohesive thought.
Mostly that entails moving some clauses around.

I just finished a book written by a British ex-pat. I checked with the
boss about the spellings and was told that the book will get some
publication in the UK.

I left all the "our" spellings as in neighbour, but where there was an
's' rather than a 'z' in words such as realize, I replaced the s with a z.

Americans can read the "u" in British spellings without doing a mental
"whoa", but the 's' is strange and jogs the reader from the flow of the
words. I checked with my trusty OED and found that they did not use the
spellings with an 's' instead of a 'z' (realize, not realise) so I was
not wrong at all. If you can't trust the OED, what can you trust?

I am, perhaps, a little comma heavy in my dialog, but natural pauses in
speech deserve commas.

I read the preview of Bryan's book and yep, there are a hell of a lot of
commas. He must have had a very shoddy editor.

I started reading it at work then realized I was logged into my company's

I hope we don’t get recommendations based on it.

I bookmarked it for future reference...I might have $2.94 to spend but will have to ask my banker for an advance.

Everyone should wait until Dec. 21, when you can "buy" it for $0.00. For
now, you can preview the first 2-1/2 chapters for free.

Congratulations, Bryan! What an accomplishment! You and your

OK - I gave it a two minute shot. Ho-hum dialogue. Same old subject, predicate, subject, predicate. Pulitzer material it is not. I won't even comment on plot.

Hell, your posts to this group are more interesting and certainly better written.
