Default It worked!

I saw a idea for a bacon topped apple pie and thought "why not"? Ran
the idea past hubby and his response was "give me bacon and eggs - put
the pie on the side". Where's his spirit of adventure? So I made
apple crisp with bacon bits in the topping. Oh, yes - it was
delicious. Next time I do it, I'll use more bacon and use bacon
drippings for half the butter. Maybe I'll throw caution to the wind
and replace all the butter with bacon drippings... but I don't want to
overwhelm. I just want a little more bacony goodness, so maybe not.

That sounds like good eats to me. I recently had a doughnut with maple icing and bacon bits. I liked it and would have another. Most doughnuts see rather ordinary after that. I vaguely recall adding bacon to a pecan pie. That was pretty good too that is, if it wasn't a dream.

I lack that same spirit of adventure, but two days ago, I used 3 pounds of
bacon that I'd bought cheaply because they were approaching their sell by
dates. I cooked them crispy then added all 3 pounds to 2 pounds of fresh
green beans that I cooked to tender, and continued on low in the crock pot
while I boiled 3 cut up potatoes which I added, and mixed in. It was one
of the best things I've ever made, and my wife an son agreed. The bacon
had been marked down to $1.79, so it was only $5.37, but at regular bacon prices, it would have been pretty expensive. Still, it made a meal for 3,
with leftover for me to take for lunch the following day.

That was quite a deal! Hubby picked up a 3lb package of bacon
yesterday on sale for something like $12 - but it was just a normal
store sale, not in the mark down bin.
