Default The smartest meal planning app

Check out this new meal planning app I am developing. It takes recipes from your favorite apps and automatically turns them into meal plans with grocery lists. Feel free to post any comments, feedback is welcome!

I think I'll keep on using the same old app that has worked perfectly
all my adult life. Thanks anyway.

Plan? We don't usually plan meals more than a couple of hous ahead.
Never saw the need to worry about what to have for lunch nest Thursday.
Nor do I have any apps with recipes. We buy what looks good at the
time and make it when we feel like.

Same as Ed. I *might* plan something the day before, but that's about it.

When I lived alone or when it was just two of us here, I didn't plan. But
now that there are three of us and we don't all eat at the same times or the
same things, I do need to plan so that I will have leftovers for my husband
to eat. Since he rarely eats when we do. I already know that I am doing
two tuna casseroles for tomorrow. One without dairy.

I did not order any meat in my CSA package but I am getting red bell peppers
which I will cook with an onion and some stir fry beef pieces that I got
last week but didn't use. That will be enough for at least two meals. I
have leftover chili that I will eat. I also have turkey breast to make with
wild rice. And if there are any days left in the week, I will make pasta.
And probably some vegetable soup.

That would be even better with nice crisp broccoli in it, as well! Add
a little ginger, garlic, and soy sauce and dish it out on jasmine
rice. Delish!

Nobody here will eat cooked broccoli and we don't like ginger either.

It would work with crisp-tender green beans and slivered almonds or
sesame seeds instead.

If the app developer can do it right, it will be popular because I see
people asking for weekly meal plans all the time. That's why Rachael
Ray turned the concept into a FN show and major cooking magazines post
weekly meal plans.

Do they sell because people are that regimented or do they just lack
imagination?

What's for dinner tonight? No idea, but I'm going to the store soon and
may spot something.

You've forgotten how many people don't like to cook and consider meal
planning a necessary chore.

That's what people who enjoy cooking do. My Mr. Mom son-in-law is not
a natural cook by any means. He is so relieved to have me do the meal
planning and cooking that he gives me the keys to his car and his
credit card for the duration of my stay.

OK, but they are probably not reading RFC looking for an app either.

Sounds like good deal for both.

BTW, it is chicken wings tonight. Roasted sweet potato and veggie to be
determined when we peek in the freezer.

I don't buy wings often because the price is ridiculous, but they were
1.99 today so I grabbed a pack.

The people I know who don't like to cook certainly do not plan out meals.

I have dinner plans for today but never more than 1/2 day in advance.

<snip>

I have no recipe apps nor do I want any. I have a pen and a meal plan pad
of paper. I just look through what I have and what is on sale and make a
meal plan from there. I make my own grocery lists too. One for each store.

I just wonder if at accounts for leftovers and waste. e.g. 'use 1/4 cup of buttermilk' - what to do with the rest? Toss it? Use it in something else soon? These are the kind of situations never addressed by meal planners. If you hate to throw food out, it can be unnerving.

A good planner would also be based on nutritional value and balance.

Yup. I'm only now developing a feel for using leftovers in a
different enough way that I don't feel like I'm eating leftovers...
which reminds me of another one who made a season out of the meal
planning concept: Sandra Lee and her Round 2 meals.

I'll have the Spam Spam Spam Spam. "I don't like Spam." Oh, and a
mention of beans and toast and Spam. As a USian I do not understand
baked beans on toast. And certainly not with Spam, although it seems to
be popular in Hawaii. This was a very funny skit. <G>

Oh, I have baked beans on toast every now and then. It's common here
in Aus.

I'd rather see an app that can take user input about the foods one has
at hand and give several possible recipes along with some nutritional
info.

I just type in the stuff on hand and I've found many decent recipes for free.
