Default Hostess Twinkie factory near Chicago closing

Kind of sad. Years ago I saw a PBS show on the history of the Twinkie; I
think much of it was filmed at this factory.

The Schiller Park, Ill., bakery, where Twinkies were invented in 1930,
will close according to an announcement by Hostess Brands on Wednesday,
the Chicago Tribune reported.

The facility was reopened in July 2013 after the company's bankruptcy
and acquisition by private equity firms Apollo Global Management and C.
Dean Metropoulos & Co.

Hostess treats were off the shelves for eight months allowing
competitors to introduce "knockoff" products that may have hurt the
company's sales, the Tribune said.

"As a result, we have invested in more efficient production capabilities
and need to streamline our manufacturing infrastructure and protect our
ability to compete," said Hostess CEO Bill Toler, according to the
newspaper.

Originally, Hostess had 11 plants with a union workforce; however, after
the closure of the Schiller Park facility, that number will be down to
three. This closing will affect about 400 employees, the Tribune said.

Does anyone really care about Twinkies anymore? I don't think the world
ended when Hostess filed bankruptcy.

I certainly care about them, and now I'm waiting for the
Sriracha-flavored version. Should be great!

I have never eaten one nor would I. Angela did ask for some after they
brought them back as she had never had them. I bought her a two pack. One
bite and out they went. She did not like them at all.

Twinkie sales are off by 19%. People don't put them in the Jell-o any
more.

Again, this is due to the lack of sriracha-flavored Jello. I'm sure the
marketplace will remedy this very soon.

Oh, don't give people ideas! There is that Jell-O recipe with pretzels in
it.

How fortunate for you to have so many pastries to gobble down during the
day...
