Default The aromas of Christmas

Every year at this time I have a stove-top potpourri going. As I peel
oranges, I drop the peel into an old pot with some water. I add a
cinnamon stick or two, some whole cloves and maybe a bit of star
anise. I put the pot on the stove on simmer. A wonderful aroma fills
the air as the gentle steam adds moisture to winter-dry indoor air.
This mixture is good on the stove for a couple of days and then I
throw it out and start all over again.

We usually have the gas fireplace going this time of year, so I keep a pot of water in front of the stove to add some humidity to the room. I keep cinnamon sticks and orange peels in it for that homey smell. Love it!
