I am only asking here in the hopes that someone has a solution. Everything
worked fine until the wee hours of the morning. Then Windows Mail started acting up. Was telling me that it couldn't open because another instance of it was already loaded (it wasn't) or that there was low memory. A couple of reboots solved that. The problem was then that it kept wanting to compact the messages but it wouldn't work. And it kept restarting, only to repeat. I might have a lead on that but in the meantime, I got it to where it never asks to compact. The big problem I have now is that alt.support.diabetes won't load. It tells me that there are 28 messages and yet when I click on it, the top of the screen is blank and below it tells me that it can't load the folder. Cause may be low disk space or low memory. Neither is the case. I know that the newsgroup is still up and running. I also know that others have had the same problem with just one newsgroup not loading (not this same group though) while running Thunderbird. I have Windows Mail and am running Vista 32 bit. One suggestion was to change to Windows Live Mail but I fear new problems with that. Am also using Eternal September. Any suggestions about why I can no longer get this group? Obvious fixes like unsubscribing, resubscribing, resetting the list and rebooting do not help. Thanks for any light you might be able to shed on this! Have posted to other, more suitable newsgroups but no clues as to the group not loading. |

There was a blip earlier where I couldn't post or receive to any of them but that is now resolved. Someone on the computer group thought this related to the compacting. Said perhaps that NG was too full and needed compacted but this one here seems to have a ton more posts than any other on my list. |

Looks like the local archive for that group in your PC got corrupted. Each group ios archived as a kind of a little database (not that little if we talk about RFC) Have a look he http://www.softspire.com/how-to-loca...re-folder.html If you don't need to preserve old messages, identify the folder where email and news messages are stored by clicking on the "Store folder" button, then identify the file of that newsgroup and delete it. In Outlook Express, which Windows Mail is derived from, the newsgroup archive files were named after the newsgroup itself, like rec.food.cooking.dbx. NOTE: the extension may differ, once it wad dbx, I don't know what they actually use, anyway you should be able to recognise the right file. BTW, I don't use Windows Mail so I couldn't verify the process step by step -- "Un pasto senza vino e' come un giorno senza sole" Anthelme Brillat Savarin |

That's what works for me although I don't know what program you're using (Windows Mail?) alt.support.diabetes seems like a lively newsgroup. I predict that it will only get more lively. By "lively" I mean it's a little nutty was well as being highly active - but you already know about that. |
