Default Cumin in Mexican cuisine

Where does it come from? It's an Old World spice, much used in Central Asia, India, the Near East, and the southern Med. Formerly much used in Roman and Byzantine cooking.

Who took it to Mexico? The 3 main early routes for new foods in/out of the Americas were Spain-Mexico, Africa-Brazil, Philippines-Mexico. The last doesn't seem so likely for a cumin route.

Not sure of its routes or history but its indispensable for making real Texas Chili and assorted other Tex Mex type foods. This place right here peddles the best.
