But Thunderbird includes an nntp client. You're saying that client won't
function under W8?

Why do people say NNTP client instead of news reader?

I suspect they are just trying to get you to try a salisbury steak
sometime. Once you tell us you tried one, and Julie tries a BigMac,
they will start calling them a news reader.

Using Forte Agent and Astraweb.com means you're dealing with NNTP
(Network News Transfer Protocol), too.

Salisbury steak isn't just a hamburger with gravy on it. It contains
other ingredients just like meatloaf does. Do you dislike meatloaf with
gravy?

Because that is the correct term. When you say news reader, for all a
lot of people know, you could be referring to that chap on TV who reads
the news! When you say NNTP Client, you still confuse those very same
people but they are in no doubt that you don't mean the chap on TV.

If I wanted to make real Boeuf Bourguignon, I'd make it. I'm making
cube steak with a red wine and mushroom gravy. Is that concept to

Geeks do like to go on and on. :-) NNTP is a set of ancient standards
(1986?) that's still in use today to read and post to Usenet. There are
programs that use NNTP like Forte Agent and Thunderbird and then there
are browser based programs like Google Groups which allow Usenet access
without having to use NNTP.

The important thing to know is that NNTP looks to be on it's last leg
because there's not much interest in creating NNTP apps for mobile
devices. Thunderbird and Forte Agent will not run on Window 8.1 RT or
Android or iOS or Chrome OSes. It seems logical that Usenet will either
cease to exist or that mostly we'll be using Google Groups.

That's only cuz the true linux OS has yet to make significant inroads
on hand-held devices, so far. Eventually, full linux OS devices,
cells, tabs, etc, will make the leap. I find it counter-intuitive
that cellphones are such txt centric I/O devices, yet the shell and
its CLI are held at bay. This will inevitably change. I have little
use for one until they do.

Not traditionally. The classic is a buttermilk/egg and flour crust.

Android may have strayed from what the original developers had in mind
but Android was made for mobile devices and you can't stick with
building an OS for desktops in the Brave New World. Desktops are a dead
end, just a needed stepping stone for the real potential of computers.
Just ask Capt. Kirk. You Linux geeks should be happy, it's the most used
OS in the world. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Nonsense.

The keyboard, the heart of a desktop system, isn't going anywhere
anytime soon. Sysadmins will eventually demand a hand held device
with a shell (qwerty or t-scrn) to access servers. Until then, the
laptop and netbook are jes smaller desktops. I can ssh my rPi from my
netbook, but I'll be damned if I'll use the qwerty k/b on my cellphone
even if I could, which I can't. That will change. Gar-own-tee! ;)

Ayep! In fact, I find the crust, if done correctly, actually makes a
cube steak --which is still rather tough cut of meat-- more tender.
So, the steak is basically steamed in the crust and the crust provides
an almost crispy browned shell. The semi-crispy crust also stands up
to the gravy. At least that's how I do mine.

So, if you put gravy on it, does it not make that crust horribly soggy?

Sorry, just noticed you said your gravy 'stands up to it':) Does everyones?

Bob gave you a version of 'chicken fried steak.' It does have a crispy crust but country fried steak is also dusted with flour and fried and then simmered in the gravy made from the drippings. After about an hour of barely simmering the steak becomes fork tender and the gravy is heavenly. I do serve mine with mashed potatoes with some of the gravy dolloped over the top. Yummmmm.

Ahh ok. Thanks! That sounds better with gravy! I was sure Jill mentioned
gravy on chicken friend steak.

It's no country for old men and technology won't slow down just because
people have trouble with typing with their thumbs. Most young people
that I know have abandoned their desktops and keyboards. I'm sure that a
lot of old folks thought that horseless carriages replacing the
time-tested horse and buggy was nonsense. They were wrong.

What's so great about the qwerty keyboard anyway? It's a stupid layout.

I have a tablet, a laptop and a desktop (or three). It's not only young
people who move with the times. In fact, I've had young people say that
I'm right up there with them as an early adopter.

Congrats on being an early adopter. I've been trying to get my
step-mother to abandon AOL. Who the hell uses AOL in 2013!!!

If some people had their druthers, we'd all be using WebTV. :-)
