I often deal with vendors whose free shipping threshold is $75-$150. Besides, Amazon's free shipping is still pretty cheap, even on goods that don't qualify. I jes paid less than $10 for an item shipped directly from Japan! I paid only $3.50 for shipment of a hard cover book. I can barely start my car that cheap. Plus, there are some vendors that have free shipping. Zappos comes to mind and they now sell cooking items. OTOH, it pays to do some research. I usta buy New Balance shoes from Zappos. Free shipping, even for returns. But, Zappos will not accept returned shoes if they show ANY outside or too much wear. There is a no return policy on downloaded music for obvious reasons. I wrote, got a response almost immediately reversing the charge and explaining other ways I could get the tunes. When they asked for feedback on my customer service experience, I said There's a reason I've been a customer since the 90s, amazon has your back. I didn't order from Amazon on purpose for years because there was no way on god's green earth I was going to order multiple items just to get free shipping when I only wanted one thing that didn't cost $50. I noticed they'd dropped the minimum, so I ordered from there a couple of times in the last few months and as luck would have it, I actually made the minimum. Now that it's up to $35, I will have less interest in considering Amazon in the future. Most brick & mortar stores have far less selection (mostly "generic" cases, not made to exactly fit a specific model) and charge a whole lot more for them. Look on Amazon. You can get a high-quality, exact-fit case for your Nexus 7 for as little as five bucks. Poetic is one of the more highly regarded case brands, but you'll find similarly-designed cases under other labels as well. They offer several styles - colors, too, though colors other than black usually cost more. Speaking of Amazon, I don't shop DealExtreme much anymore, because most of what I look for there I can find on Amazon for the same price, sometimes cheaper. And sometimes from US-based sellers, too, meaning I don't have to wait weeks for delivery. |

I see they charge $79 for Prime, but I'm not seeing a Netflix type library to choose from. I see movies that you rent can individually like you would with Comcast On Demand. If I wanted to do that, I'd just give Comcast even more money (which I won't do) because free shipping from Amazon isn't worth $80 to me. At this point, Comcast and Netflix seem to be talking about joining forces - so maybe I should just wait. Although Chromecast still seems perfect for when you're on the road... dial into Netflix and pick a movie. Would the hotel's wifi router be a problem getting the stream? I got a deal on a ASUS Transformer Book T100 Z3740 which has a list price of $399. I got it from B&H Photo for $424 with shipping. Amazon's price of $480 with shipping was not a contender. The ASUS T100 looks to be a very hot item. It's a 10.1" tablet with a detachable keyboard that uses a new Intel processor that claims to have an 11 hour battery life. Amazing if true. The thing that sold it to me was that it runs on full blown Windows 8.1 and comes with Microsoft Office 2013 Home and Student. Essentially it's a less elegant Microsoft Surface Pro at less than half the price. What a deal! The $399 price is for the 64 GB model. I suspect that there will be some price gouging and the sellers will try to slip the $349 32 GB unit past consumers at $399 or higher. If you're interested in this machine, please know what you're getting. |
