They are retired and rich like you.

Do they get any compensation for appearing

Some ppl will let s--t be dumped on their heads for a buck. Maybe that's what happened with the Amy deal with Gordon. I never trust a reality show.

There hasn't been anything "real" about reality shows for many years.
They are so staged and gimmick-laden I don't see how anyone can be
sucked into watching more than one episode. (Challenges? Phbbbt.)

Some are very entertaining and informative for a couple of episodes. I
liked Swamp People. But after seeing how they catch alligators it got
boring. I never knew about driving trucks on ice roads until I saw
Ice Road Truckers. Once they made a couple of trips, my curiosity was
satisfied.

Survivor was OK for one season, have not seen it since.

Still watch the Amazing Race because of the different countries they
visit, a glimpse of traditions, and the scenery.

Then, of course, NASCAR. Turn left. turn left, turn left. I
wonder if they memorize the route of if they use a map.

I have watched Ice Road Truckers. Don't know if it is still on or not but I
will still watch it if nothing else is on. No interest in those other
things.
