I'm probably being redundant, but thank you again for encouraging me
to try "fish cakes". I froze the unbrowned leftovers of what I made a
couple of weeks ago and because you said they cook up from frozen very
well, that's the way I did it. The outside was crispy, the inside
creamy and the fish was not overcooked. I'm loving this!

What are your favorite sides with fishcakes? I grated zucchini (and
sautéed it with olive oil & garlic) and boiled up some pasta... but in
the end, I would have enjoyed a green salad more. Still learning what
I would like to accompany it. Suggestions welcomed!

Always fries and peas <g> Salad is nice though too) Of course with fries
you get carb overload why it's not wise for me to make them too often

Yeah, that's my problem too. I'm looking at fishcakes as a way to
sneak more fish into my life, not as an excuse to load up on carbs.

Aye. Fish cakes (my style) although they taste very good, are a very
simple dish. Trying to make a grand dish out of them is simply silly <g>
But then, some people like to appear grand about everything. Fancy
restaurants make special fish cakes with expensive fish, but not the kind we
are talking about. Keep it simple sf, maybe some salad or steamed veg is
great Just don't overwhelm your fish cakes with highly flavoured stuff
that will take away the simplicity. They taste pretty good in their own
right That stuff is nice yes, but not with fish cakes

Thanks, O. It appears we're like minded. I was really surprised by
how good they tasted after having been frozen! I won't shy away from
buying fish at Costco anymore (because volume was always an issue for
me).

Did you cook your fish or mix it in frozen?

For fish cakes, I would combine them with fries and coleslaw.
Not suggesting, just saying what I would do.

I like the coleslaw idea, but the fishcakes Ophelia and I make are
mashed potato based + fish - so more starch doesn't appeal. I might
experiment with beans and see how that goes... maybe lentils or baked
beans. Coleslaw sounds really good though.

yeah, coleslaw usually goes well with seafood - especially with fried
seafood.

I could eat the tomatoes raw that way!

Great idea, I'm going to try that with yogurt.

More potatoes to go with fishcakes that are already made with them?
....although I do like the new potato idea. Maybe I'll try one of the
fishcake recipes I found that don't use mashed potato and see how it
goes.

Thanks!

Well, since I only make that kind of a meal twice a year at the most
(and never serve Yorkshire pudding with turkey) - all bets are off
when it comes to carb loading.

You know, I hadn't ever thought of Yorkshire with turkey gravy before. I
can't think of a thing wrong with it. I gotta try it if I can get my
wife to buy into it. Yorkshire pudding with beef and pork roast are
already familiar to me. Though blasphemy, roast turkey and roast chicken
could easily provide a tasty alternative. I wouldn't hate it.
I love Yorkshire pudding with a rich simple gravy. I hadn't thought of
chicken or turkey until now. As horrifying as it may sound, Thanks!
