I dont own a rasp/grater and I am in the middle of making lemon bars :-)
I have never bought a lemon before lol and need fresh grated lemon. Mom gave this to me for a Christmas gift after reading about it in a products review site. Embarassed to admit I just now opened it: "Endurance stainless steel Select-A-Peel" Three blade choices-regular, softskin, julienne. I used softskin on my lemon. With no pressure it peeled long extremely thin slices from the yellow of the lemon. LIke buttah! Smells divine and this stuff will be great in a cold drink as well. |

Has mommy always cooked for you? For grated lemon you'll get better results with a microplane grater or a box grater, but you don't own either of these. It will take a while before you get completely away from everything you eat coming from a mix or fast food. Next week we'll cover 'how to boil water.' |

We had a lemon tree when we were growing up, and first thing I planted one when I bought my house. |

I buy lemons only when specifically needed for a recipe but I always have limes on hand. |

I don't even like Crystal Light and its ilk lemon drink powders because it tastes like Real Lemon. I do like the cherry flavored powders, because I don't expect it to taste like real cherries, tastes closer to marachinno. I'm not a fan of 7-Up and other lemon flavored carbonated beverages, to me they all taste medicinal. |

I am wondering whether that started during Prohibition. I don't like soft drinks. I almost ever drink them, and if I do, I usually am reminded after I take one sip. I do make ice cream soda-type things, but I start at the point that the beverage is somewhat diluted with melted ice cream. -- Jean B. |

Only problem is, they are in the backyards of two of our neighbours. They don't use them at all so we get them any time we need them. Thanks for asking. The lemon bars were good. Fresh grated lemon rind is
awesome-who knew?! ;-) Geography and cultural background has a lot to do with what one is familiar with. I grew up on an orchard-no lemons or oranges or limes though... I have large hands, maybe that's why I liked this gadget? I sat in the recliner and peeled that entire lemon in seconds into the bowl in my lap. Then I spent 15 minutes just enjoying the scent-memories of Jean Nate lol I was very pleased by substituting 1 cup Stevia for 1 cup powdered sugar. Stevia in no way threw off the chemical process the way Splenda does-it will be my sugar of choice from now on. I followed my coworkers recipe but had a problem with the crust. Recipe said to press the dough into the pan and then pour the cheesecake topping over. Well, I must have pressed too hard because I ended up with two very distinct layers whereas hers merged during the baking. Next time I would leave the crust loose and crumbly. And you were right, it was more like shortcake than pie crust. To enhance the sweet lemon of it even more I frosted them with lemon curd which is something I could just spoon up like pudding its so perfect. |
