Sure you can. I don't even post through google and it's a breeze.

Or better yet, just learn to use the news client that you already have.
Just about every news client has a "full headers" option, which will
show you the message ID.

Since all the trolls I have KFd are so busy fighting and no one seems
to know the answer to your question, I temporarily avail myself.

You go to GG, then advanced search, then find the thread you're
looking for. Once you have the thread, find the post you want, then
click on "original message", which will show all the headers,
including Message-ID:.

You all use GG ....which is why yer all KFd!.... but don't know spit
about how it works. Whatta bucha maroons!

Don't bother replying, as I won't see it.

Yes, you will see it as you don't "killfile" all GG users as you claim.

Actually, aem answered her question almost immediately. The Message ID of

Fact is, sf (the person who asked the question) does *not* post from Google
Groups. If you bothered to look at the headers in her post, you'd see that
she uses Forte Agent and the Forte NNTP service. I can only guess at the
reason she asked how to retrieve a Message ID when using Google Groups.

I use GG and Thunderbird 8.0 and I'd sure be interested in knowing in
what these more powerful features and capabilities that a real
reader/NNTP server combo is capable of. What newsreader are you using?

I too use Firefox 8 and GG and have no desire to switch. Who needs those "special" features when most of them are of no benefit whatsoever in day to day reading of postings? The ability to filter all those "undesirables" who use GG seems to be the main reason for a dedicated "reader".

I'm really starting to get excited to hear about all the powerful and
wonderful things these programs will do for me. Hopefully, its not all
about filtering out undesirables because Thunderbird has a super nice
one that I don't use - I'm just great at ignoring folks without
resorting to artificial means. 🎅🎄ðŸŽðŸŽ‰

As it goes, there's not much chance that I'll be running a Linux OS so
I'm not going to be able to try out Pan. OTOH, it looks like it has a
heavy duty set of binary file handlers and some pretty good options for
batch downloading. I can't say there's much value for me in that - it
brings to memory the bad old days of the 90s. I'm surprised that people
still do that sort of thing. That's the breaks.

I've had to tinker with this, and it might not work on the latest
GGGUI, but this works for me. You don't have to see any posters or
threads you don't want to, thanks to Greasemonkey.

So, the answer to how to find a message ID using Google Groups is to
download a program I don't want to use go to a news server I don't
want to sign up for? Gee, thanks. That means Chemo was right after
all, It can't be done.

Thanks anyway. I'll try it later.
