Default Extra-Ordinary Relationships with Food - Sustenance, Art or Something More?

Well folks, what can I say…today has been a wonderful learning
experience for me – both in terms of my ever-increasing knowledge of
the vast range of dishes here in Bangkok, but also, more importantly,
getting in touch with my inner-self in regards to food.

My inner-self – what do I mean by that? Well. Let me digress. I know
in the past we have had some quite thought-provoking and insightful
discussions pertaining to our ‘Extra-Ordinary Relationships’ with
food. What I mean by that, IS, viewing and treating food as something
more than just something that goes into our mouth! It is about
respecting food, admiring it for its beauty and practicalities, as
well as getting to know it better by trying to gain a deeper
understanding of ‘what food really is’ and what qualities make us
think so much about it. SHOULD we see food as a living, breathing
organism, or, merely something that WE need to sustain
ourselves...e.g. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Pyramid???? Some folk may
question as to if I am looking at the subject TOO deeply, whilst on
the other hand, I am sure there are also those folk who agree with me
in terms of needing to try and develop, AND maintain, more meaningful
relationships with food…Thought- provoking huh?

Anyways, back to the point of my posting – I had the wonderful
opportunity recently to be able to wander around some of the back sois
(‘streets’ in Thai for those of YOU who cannot speak Thai) with a
wonderful lady who is regarded as one of the finest and most
experienced connoisseurs of Thai cuisine in Bangkok – a delightful
lady BY the name of Khun Jochen. Part-time chef, Part-time Mom and
Full-time wonderful woman, Khun Jochen knows her food, and simply
delights in letting others share her passion for it. Just walking
around with Jochen provided for an unforgettable experience as she
shared her vast knowledge of Thai cuisine; to listen to her speak with
such enthusiasm for her country’s cuisine was kinda inspiring.

Watching Khun Jochen caress all kinds of neat exotic fruits and veg at
one of her favourite little markets was a real turn-on for me and also
reminded me of how we all should look upon food. Don’t just see it as
an object; please…you are doing BOTH yourself and the food a serious
injustice! Caress your food, smell it, visualize how you want it to
look and taste, make love to your food in a metaphorical way. There
are no limits to the way we should interact with our food….To me, food
is one OF the most important and life-sustaining elements in our daily
life – we treat our family members with the utmost respect – why NOT
do the same with our food?!

Well folks, I know I may have gotten a little carried away here, but
just wanted to share with you all my feelings from a very special day
I had…thanks for listening and would love to hear YOUR thoughts on the
issues raised here…

Kind Regards,
Brian Anasta

You view and treat food as something that your penis goes into. It's called
"sitophilia" and is a rather UNCOMMON perversion.
