Default Shrimp hard to peel. Why?

Fairway, a respected supermarket in the NYC area, has wild jumbo shrimp on
sale this week for $8.99. I only buy wild, and larger shrimp are less to
process, so I bought some.

Using my highy recommended Shrimp Scissors* I cut through their backs. But
then it was hard to peel the shells off the body. They had no odor, so I
presume they were fresh. Or were they hard to peel as they were jumbo,
hence they were older?

Awwwwwww, I like shrimp but I have no idea why his were so hard to
peel. I'm a wuss and just buy the already deveined variety and the
shell slips right off.

Wild shrimp are a lot more tenacious about their shells and don't give
them up nearly as easy as the pansy-assed domesticated shrimps! ;-)

That may be. At other stores claims that the shrimp were wild -- and I
bought them -- may not have been true. Or I don't buy them often enough to
remember.

My guess is that shrimp that has recently molted will be harder to peel.
The popular way to prepare shrimp here is to just fry the shrimp in
shell with garlic and butter - the way that I usually do it.

People are a little nutty about garlic shrimp on this rock in the middle
of nowhere. There were shrimp truck wars here about a decade ago but
that has settled down a bit. It's still quite competitive. To me it's
just shrimp but I think that being out in the sun makes people crazy.

I was just kidding, but there may be some truth to it too. Some
variance between subspecies of shrimps is certainly possible.
