I don't buy much there. Sometimes cheese. Occasionally candy. Vitamins. I don't trust their meat. Too many recalls. The produce at the one we have here in Lynnwood is never fresh, even when it just comes in. |

They opened a TJ's where I live in Greenville, SC about a month ago.
I went once right before Thanksgiving and picked up some stuffed flounder and a Pumpkin cheesecake. I'm not sure how much sense it made to put the store about a half mile from a Whole Foods store, which is much larger than the Trader Joes. |

Same reason Burger King is across the street from McDonalds. |

It reminds me of when I was in radio and I would have to play commercials for McDonalds and Burger King in the same commercial block. We could never play them back to back, just like we were not allowed to play car ads back to back. |

Trader Joes keeps their stores small for a reason. They consider themselves more of a specialty store than a regular grocery store or supermarket. They fill a niche market. They are not interested in being everything to everyone. That formula works very well for them. So it doesn't matter if they are next door to a Whole Foods, or Costco or anyone else. They always do very well. |
