Yeah, right... anyone who threatens your parasitic/entitlement lifestyle... you ain't entitled to a cent, you belong isolated from productive society like in a leper colony. You deserve to writhe on the ground and starve, playing the system you're a common thief. |

I wasn't "boasting" about anything. Picking up the local paper doesn't tell me anything. Have you ever *read* the Beaufort Gazette? Thirty pages about nothing! And BTW, for two of those years I was rather busy dealing first with my father who had dementia and didn't even recognize me. Second, my mother who, when he died was a complete mess (they were married 57 years). She was ill herself, then she broke her hip and went down from there. I was basically a housekeeper, doing all the shopping, cooking and cleaning. Paying medical bills and dealing with settling first his then her estates. I wasn't paying attention to local politics, except to know Governor Mark Sanford was screwing some chick in Argentina. So I'm terribly sorry, Dan, but I don't *know* who the local politicians are. I won't vote a straight ticket, Democratic or Republican, without having some sense of what they're representing. It's not apathy. It's wanting to make an informed choice. And I admit, I'm not informed. So I didn't vote for anyone. Jill |

I agree with the "blind" part, but not the rest. Then again, maybe we have newspapers here that I trust. I'm not happy with candidates' positions here, they are all for motherhood and apple pie. I can't argue with that, but since they are all for the same thing, I can't choose based on that. Candidate mailers are worse. I'm supposed to vote for them because they have a spouse and three cute kids? Because they and their family have been here for a long time? -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California USA |

At least they're making a stab at being informed. I laboriously poured over the propositions (in California's weird proposition-centric ballot) and candidates. I didn't vote for those I knew nothing about (most of the school board candidates and one of the judicial candidates), but I had researched the other candidates or knew their reputations. As to the propositions, you really have to read them carefully, as they are often written to mislead <cough! emissions! cough!> I was surprised to see so few people using their sample ballot at the poll. I'd have been there half the day if I hadn't brought my marked up sample with me. I had sent my application for a permanent write in vote, but it must have gotten lost in the ether, as it never showed up.
