Default Tom Colicchio, "Chef of the Year"

'Top Chef' judge Colicchio named top chef for 2010

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100504/...ds_restaurants

"Top Chef" judge Tom Colicchio passed a quickfire challenge of his own
Monday when he was named the nation's top chef by the James Beard
Foundation.

Colicchio, whose numerous restaurants include Craft, Craftsteak and the
recently opened Colicchio & Sons in New York, was named outstanding chef
during an awards ceremony that is considered the Oscars of the food
world. It's an honor for which he'd been a finalist seven other times
since 2002, the same year the organization named Craft the nation's best
new restaurant.

Rest of the story is pretty good, too. Outstanding service award went to
Grant Achatz. Rising-star chef is Timothy Holllingsworth of the French
Laundry. Bob and I have eaten at two of the regional winners
restaurants, "Manresa" and "Joel Robuchon". I think they are deserved.
Still need to try a Colicchio restaurant!

We sorta ate at Craft last August. We had been eating our way across
town for about three days. That afternoon we had a drink and snack
around the corner at CraftBar; at least I think that's the name of his
bar. We loved it!

We then got last minute reservations that evening for Craft. We ate two
appetizers which were very unimpressive. Perusing the menu trying to
find something for an entree, we found it so incredibly dull. We bailed
and hit a great Japanese Izakaya place, "Ten", in the village instead.
It was wonderful.
