Phoenix ? ? ?
I find I will be in Phoenix May 12 thru the 16th. I'll be there for
an ABA Equal Justice Conference. The conference itself will be at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs (11111 N 7th Street) bit I will be at the overflow hotel Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort (7687 N 16th Street). Breakfasts and lunches I will have to have in the hotel. A couple of the lunches and a dinner have speeches etc and will be at the hotel but I will have at least two dinners on my own. I'm looking for restaurant/foodie suggestions. Phoenix "special" or local food and places to eat it. I'll try to talk some brave soul from the conference into going with me. Also there are people who scoop up loose cats and sell them to the labs at Berkeley. Years ago, a cat disappeared under suspicious circumstances and I'm still not sure it didn't end up in a lab. There's been pressure on the labs not to accept random-source animals so maybe this is less of a problem now. Plus we have ID chips in them (I would hope the animal testers would scan them first, right?) Steve |

Ugh. It's mostly that I've never met an indoor cat who was happy with the situation. Coyotes, domestic dogs, some categories of humans will all attack outdoor domestic cats. Foxes probably would, but not racoons so far as I am aware. Small cats are also subject to predation by raptors. I'm confident that our two, indoor-outdoor, adopted strays have lived a lot longer than they would have if we had never adopted them (they were born in 1999, adopted in 2000-2001). I personally think it's impractical to try to bring in all the outdoor cats, but I know animal rescuers who attempt this (including one who keeps between 50 and 150 indoor cats at any given time). There simply aren't enough adoptors who want indoor-only cats to bring them all indoors. Steve |

In one case, the cat did escape and tried to climb a fence after a bird. Unfortunately the cat forgot that in addition to being trapped indoors, it had also been declawed, so it couldn't make it up the fence, fell, and broke its pelvis. Fortunately it was treated and survived. (This is a cat I had lived with, several years previously, when it was a perfectly happy indoor/outdoor cat.) I'm curious about this "hundreds of people" you know with indoor only cats... you must be connected with some slice of humanity that I have nothing to do with. Such as cat breeders.
