Default Dew Drop INN

I am not sure if this is the best place to post this message, but the
restaurant newsgroup does not seem to get much action. I was at a place in
Kirksville, Mo called the "Dew drop inn", and have heard that there are
other "Dew drop inns" in other places. Has anyone heard of these in other
towns, and what kind of places are they? Is it a chain that existed in the
early 20th Century?

Thanks

Tom

When we lived on the RI-CT border 20 years ago, therre
was one on Rte 2 in North Stonington, CT. Since that has
become the gateway to the mega casino, the restaurant
may well have folded.

This one was a mom-and-pop diner along one of the
routes from Hartford and Norwich to the RI beaches.

AFAIK, there WERE no restuarant chains in the early
20th century. HoJo's was one of the first, and it
felt like a post WWII undertaking.

I don't know where the name originated, but I think Charlie Daniels
mentioned it in "Uneasy Rider". The name could have been copied from there.

According to Charlie Daniels there's one in Mississippi.

"... Kind of redneck lookin' joint, called the Dew Drop Inn.
Well, I stuffed my hair up under my hat, and told the bartender that I
had a flat..."

But, I digress. ;-)

Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a mistake
when you make it again.

There's are three "Dew Drop Inns" here in WA -- one each in Shelton,
Forks, and Spanaway. But I don't think they're part of a chain, as
the one in Shelton is just a seedy bar (or so I recall, it's been
quite a few years since I visited it)...

There are probably hundreds of them. They are not related. I have even seen
a Dew Drop Inn in England. It is supposed to be a "cute" name I suppose.

You could probably add a few more names to this list:
Mom's
The Snug
The Sportsman
The Office
The Log Cabln
The Pastime
Kozy Kitchen

Any more? (Yes, I've included bar names as well as diners.)
